Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

stanton, problem is that fuel has massively jumped in price (I think in something like three years the price has increased 10 fold). Aviation fuel has been hit even more so as it has to be processed in a different way. One of the biggest problems is that fuel is purchased in advance (prices are hedged) and like fixed rate mortgages most deals have now come to an end so fuel pirces will increase dramatically this year. As this fixed cost makes up around 35% of the overall price of a standard (not cheap/hooky) airfare you can see how it will effect the costs of our flight seats. Sad

masmith, I believe it's 10% of the price prior to taxes but they have to absorb the first 2% - I may well be wrong so would be great to get full clarification if anyone knows. Of course, the % increase is only controlled for existing purchases.

If it was actually what the headline claims (namely "fuel surcharges") then it would only apply to existing bookings. A surcharge is an additional cost to that you have already agreed to pay.

But it looks like the Telegraph is misusung the term, and they are really talking of fare increases driven by higher fuel costs.

Ordhan, no, you were grumbling about the blatantly obvious. Presumably a rise in fuel cost will affect Ryan air as much as it does everyone else, and therefore they will have to recoup that cost from you. If they are trumpeting a 'no fuel surcharge' policy, then you can logically expect that they are merely calling it something else.

Nickster, alex_heney, to be fair to the Telgraph, BA use the term 'fuel surcharge' as well. It's set at the time of ticket purchase, though.

I went to the Isle of Wight yesterday - by ferry, for a change, and had to pay a £3 fuel supplement on top of the super bargain cheap day spring return.

and what will this do to the cost of a lift pass? Added to the strong euro. Only solution is to go for the season - cheaper per day, and so much less travelling.
