Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What skis to get?

Just wondered if anyone can give advice on skis. I have a pair of Rosignol B2 Bandits and like the all mountain ski but want a new pair of the latest type that suits agressive piste ski and off piste. Any thoughts anyone?

Also heard good things about the supershapes. For a more off piste I loved the Nordica Hot Rod Jet Fuels.

126-84-112 at 178 radius is 18m. They rip on piste despite the big features.

Nickster,

I fear you might have as well have asked everyone to speculate on the length of a piece of string.

I'd have thought almost anything of the current generation would be better than a B2 but weight, skiing style, aggression would all go into the mix. Try to demo this summer at a snowdome I'd say or just buy waht's on sale now and make the most of it (my usual tactic) by having cash for an extra day's skiing etc.

BTW don't disagree with the above recommendations.

These are the best skis I have tried in many years.

BTW. should this not be in the equipment section?

Hi ,i tried two new sets of Rossignol skis at a trial day at Cairngorm.Firstly i tried the Zenith Z7,(ALL MOUNTAIN SKI)they were brilliant in the turn and very secure,+they were prety quick. Then i tried the Zenith Z9 Oversize. They are more a racing type ski, yhey also had great control, and were really quick. Both were excellent, but if you ski a lot of off piste i think the Z7 would be best, the Z9 if you are more on piste.Alan

Cheers everyone, plenty to go at. I like to play off piste whenever I can but as I have a couple of young 'uns I am on the piste a little more these days. In my heart of hearts I know that I need two pairs - one for huge blasting gs turns with great edges and stability at speed and another for off piste. Love the Oversized Rossies so would go for those again and then maybe I'll try the Dynastar legends 8000's I think. I tried the Legends are they were superb - anyone have any other recommmendations on those? BTW, the best piste ski ever? I reckon Volant Platinums - heavy as hell but they rip the only problem is the price tag at about £1000.00 incl bindings!

Legend 8000s seem a bit skinny for a dedicated off piste ski. You sound like you enjoy a bit of speed so maybe try the Legend Pro Cool

Nickster, Scott Missions are worth a demo, should negate the need for 2 sets of skis. I'm in the same boat as you, off piste in the morning, painfully doing slow parallels with kids in the afternoon Wink

Another vote for Scott Missions - a fairly wide off piste ski which is really good on piste too.

I was going to say, "Stoeckli Stormrider XLs" - a pretty damn good on-off-piste compromise. I have however changed my mind and want to recommend.... demo, demo, demo!!! One person's heaven is another's hell, and vice versa...

Enjoy it whilst you can; next year you will need some GS race ski's, and the year after some big fat muthas.....ah the price of keeping up with the kids snowHead

Agreeing with stanton, I hired a pair of Fischer RC4 Progressor skis in Flachau in March, which were recommended by the guy in the shop as the best thing he'd ever tried. I was a little sceptical, but within 10 minutes of hitting the slopes, I was convinced. They made a huge difference to my confidence due to their incredible turning power, and they were in excellent condition, so even when we hit patches of blue ice they had no problems holding on. At the end of the trip, I was so convinced I looked at buying a pair for myself - at which point I changed my mind Embarassed

Netx season, I'll definitely be asking for them by name - if I can consistently hire kit this good, buying makes no sense at all for me, but if you want to buy, I'd recommend you give them a try.
