Poster: A snowHead

Dear all
Am intending to get a group trip sorted for Les Arcs (or possibly La Plagne) for mid Jan 09. Some are happy to do last minute chalet deals to save on cost but a few want an advanced booking into a nice hotel (good food, pref sauna/steam etc, ideally ski in/out).
Any suggestions for a decent hotel in either of those resorts please?
cheers
Patrick

Patrick I am sure before I write this I may well get slated by fellow Snowheads, but here goes. Hotel Augille Rouge in 2000. I have been there a few times and I rate it for VFM
Large hotel not many Brits
Good variety of food and quality of meals
Location second to none
The rooms are reasonable size, not your usual apartment shoebox sized bedroom
Book around now and you may well good a good discount
No Sauna, pool etc. But you will have to pay big money for a hotel with these facilities. Also Terra Nova in Plagne Centre is pretty similar, but the downside is, it is not in Les Arcs.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

With the linking lift closed between La Plagne and Les Arcs you really need to decide which area of skiing is most important to you. Do you already know them both? What sort of skiing do you do - off piste or on? Tough or easy?

Snowball - yup, skiied La Plagne side in mid Dec 07 on amazing snow...Prefer reds/some blacks and am just venturing into off-piste following an excellent off-piste intro lesson in Belle Plagne from El Pro ski school, but having said that am going with a mixed ability group (but no beginners) so decent access to at least some blues would be nice...
Prob 1/3 of La Plagne side was closed in Dec 07 given so few people and so much snow and so still plenty for me to ski first time there, but overall wld be happy having just 1 day skiing that side, and concentrating on Les Arcs this time.
Kel - thanks for the info.
Wld welcome any recommendations,
Patrick

Sorry snowball - just to add that if there was a nice hotel on La Plagne side I'd be happy to compromise and stay that side (ideally Belle Plagne, or Soleil or maybe lower down near the Les Arcs cable car) and make maybe 2 trips to Les Arcs.

We stayed at the Du Golf in Arc 1800 and can thoroughly recommend it. The pictures of the bedrooms look odd but they are not like that in reality. Food was excellent and you can also eat in the Savoyarde restaurant. I think it is introducing a wellness centre this year. Location is superb, you can ski right back to the ski locker doors. The downside is that I have noticed it has gone up a lot in price (as has everything !)

How about Les Alpages du Chantel ,its an aparthotel in arc 1800, these are self catering apartments with the added benfits of swimming pool, sauna etc downstairs also it's ski in/ski out,we went a couple of years ago with Erna Low and would recomend it
