Scotland's five ski resorts are reporting the best season for a decade. And, with heavy snowfalls at Easter and more last week, the season is expected to extend until the end of this month and possibly into mid-May....The Cairngorm area exceeded its annual target of 51,000 skiers on Friday. Nevis Range has had its best March since 1999. Glencoe still has great conditions and expects April to be its best month this year. Glenshee’s figures are reported to be about nine times better than last year, and Lecht’s skier numbers are 15% to 20% up on last year.

Great news.
When are the official closing dates for those 5 resorts?
What are the chances of them being extended?

There is some fantastic sport on offer, but a degree of hyperbole is going on. Good as snow depths are on CairnGorm, they are not even close to 2001 levels for late April. Glencoe and Nevis are probably edging closer to 2001 levels as the East got the biggest snows that year. but to put the skier day figures in perspective in 2001 CairnGorm notched up 114,000 compared to 51,000 this year.
I think it does a disservice to build up this "best snow for a decade" when the last April there was comparative cover on the Gorm was all the way back in.... 2006!!
On the other hand the early Easter appears to have had one positive effect, people often just stop sliding after Easter. This hasn't happened this year and interest is still pretty strong, with the Ciste Carpark more than half full on CairnGorm yesterday and the carpark shuttles running today as well. Glencoe is on track to see April be their busiest month apparently.
One downer is that Glenshee has closed for the season today, afaik the principle reason is due to company staff and resources being contracted for prior commitments.
Elsewhere there is no set closing date, the other areas will respond to a combination of weather, snow conditions and demand.

Aye shared a t-bar at Nevis range with a glenshee regular yesterday and he said that this was the case.

Winterhighland, perhaps they haven't stopped sliding due to the Easter break from school not being taken until 2 weeks after Easter

Winterhighland, while not technically true, the title of the news in the media is much much better for scottisch skiing then the usual environmentalists brainwashing.

The trouble is though that the headline suggests that this year is unusual - yet ther was similar snow in April 01, April 05 and April 06 (all off the top of my head). In 06 the last day of lift served skiing was at cairngorm on the 7th May. In 05 the skiing didn't make it into May as, though there was deep and wide cover similar to what we have now, it was unconsolidated powder as the weather stayed cold for the whole period after the initial snowfall, with no freeze thaw cycling. We then had a period of very warm, wet and windy weather for 2-3 days and most of the snow was very rapidly lost in 36hrs. In 01 Cairngorm only closed due to the building of the funicular and would probably have been skiable well into May. So in reality ther has been good snow in April in 50% of the last 8 years!
