Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A Great Loss

A few weeks ago I wrote in a thread
Quote:

most of us have a mutual friend who does not come with us because he can do it for £120 per person cheaper, and get 8 days skiing in. It does involve however a mini bus journey from the NE of England general layed out on top of bags of dried pasta. They travel over night both ways, and on the last day they pile back into the mini bus, unwashed, and travel home. Self catering of course.

This chaps name was Ewan Bennett. He ran an Outward bound school in Nrth Yorkshire and was Hugely respected in his field. Ewan was a founder of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Service and dedicated his life to having fun outdoors, and to teaching others about the fun outdoors.

Ewans outdoor skills were all encompassing, from potholing to Mountaineering, from ice climbing to sea kayaking. He drove accross the Sahara, fell down crevasses, was lost for a fortnight in the Himalayas with his wife, smashed his helmet potholing when someone dropped a heavy object down a pothole. He was indestructable, your original Captain Scarlet.

Last Thursday whilse putting a birdcage on a chimney pot, he fell from a roof and died. No one saw it, no one knows how it happened. He lived a life most of us would only dream of, and was a smashing fellow to boot. This is my brief obituary, please spare a thought for his wife and 2 young kids on Wednesday when he is laid to rest.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

The brightest sparks always burn away far too quickly and we’re left behind asking why. He’s obviously a wonderful part of many people’s lives and will always be.
Thank you for letting us share your loss.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That's such a sad thing. I remember my mother discovering that I'd climbed out of a dormer window in our old family home on to the roof. She said "I absolutely forbid you from doing that". It was the most forceful thing she ever said to me. I didn't admit to her that I'd nearly slipped and fallen 20ft to the concrete yard below.

There but for the grace of God...

What an unlucky man. Every sympathy to his family.

Ditto here. He sounds like the sort of chap whose family will have plenty of good friends to help them through this.

It's hearing about things like this that bring home how delicate we really are. Regardless of how tough we and others perceive ourselves to be, it often takes very little to show we were wrong.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

His life will have been an inspiration to many and you can't ask for more than that. Hopefully his children will be old enough to remember him in the future as he deserves.

Attended the funeral this morning. Couldn't get in the church grounds, never mind the church. A very sad occaision, which was a shame because Ewan would not have wanted sadness or a fuss.

I am sure however that he would have been (or will be, depending on your beliefs) "chuffed" to read the thoughts and kind words on Snowheads of likeminded folks. Take care, many thanks.
