Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Train to Bourg

I know this has been discussed before but any help greatfully recieved, given the conditions I would like to take a short trip from 6th April for 4-5 nights I have looked at the SNCF site and the price seems to be £129 each way which seems dear, would that be my cheapest route, the day train seems easier I dont particularily want to go on the sleeper and I am happy to change in Paris?

I am trying to avoid the long transfer from Lyon or Geneva.

bedfordblue, We've just been on the train. From my experience with booking it, the prices seemed to vary quite a bit over the course of a few days. It might be worth checking it to see if this is still happening. We changed in Paris to the Gare de Lyon - a very easy transfer of 2 stops on the RER - tickets for which can be bought at St Pancras. I'm told that mid-week travel is cheaper than weekend. The good thing for us was that the TGV from Paris stopped at Landry (just at the bottom of the hill for Plan Peisey), & the same on the return trip, rather than having to go to Bourg St Maurice.
Have a good trip

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Can't help with the train, but I would recommend that you check you can get the accommodation you want before you book the travel arrangements. It's not easy to get short break accommodation.

Thanks Geri did you book it with Rail Europe or direct with SNCF?

bedfordblue, I booked on SNCF website, but it seems to automatically put you on to the Rail Europe website.

I'm trying the train for the first time in April - Booked with Rail Canterbury (snowheads recommended). They were unbelievably helpful - I kept changing the day - time etc and they kept giving me new options and prices etc until I found one that suited. Paid £200 return for day trains - but as I cant get to London early enough to get the through train from Paris - I am having to change at Chambery.
I think they charge a booking fee - but they seem to get good prices and it was so much easier than spending ages trawling websites myself!!
Good luck!
