Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How/where to fit thermic heating elements

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Having seen the forecast for Sunday/Monday in L2A (about -15 celsius, plus windchill) I've been out and bought some thermic heating elements to fit to my boots.

Just before I start cutting holes in my footbeds, any advice on where to put them? More specifically, under the instep, under the ball of the foot, or under the toes?

Many thanks in advance from a grateful pair of feet!

PaulClark, mine, fitted in a ski shop, are under the toes - sort of just infront of the ball of your foot. You'll need a slit, to push them through, then the wire comes up under the footbed, with a hole in the back of the liner, so it comes up the back between the liner and the shell.

They're great! But they give a very gentle heat. Your feet don't feel "warm", they just don't feel cold. Be sure to get your trousers well down over the battery pack; they can get some serious damage on chairlifts if you're not careful. I lost one that way, and on another occasion, got the wires ripped out of the little terminal.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

PaulClark, yep under the toes. Make a slit to pass the wire under the footbed, not like the muppet in Ellis Brigham who was going to fit mine with the element and the wire on top of the footbed, very comfortable Shocked

PaulClark, they want to sit pretty much in between the toes and of the ball of the foot, cut a slot in the footbed for the cable to pass through, depending on the footbed you have and the model of boot i sometimes like to cut the slot in the liner for the cable directly below where it cpmes through the footbed other times it is easier to pass it back under the footbed and out a slit at the back of the liner...be careful when you stick the cambrelle onto the footbed to leave enough to get all over the arch and to the heel, a little heat from a hairdryer will make it a bit more flexible for going round the curves

sorry for the brief reply but i am in italy and my beer is getting warm Toofy Grin ...and yes there is a forecast of serious snow this weekend and the temp dropping....it was pretty cold today..mmm stuck in resort due to snow....mmmm

Thank you all. That's them fitted. Ready to brave the elements!

And I've just discovered there's a special little bracket on the back of my boots that exactly fits the battery packs. How cool is that?

Very Happy
