Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Given the forecast for snow from Thursday for the next 5 days is there any possibility / value of doing the Vallee Blanche (guided) during that period ? I haven't skied Cham area before so I'm sure there's plenty else to entertain me but just fancied having a go. All advice welcome - thanks

The VB is best done on a bluebird day... as it is the scenery you go for 1st and foremost, IMV.
That and the fact that the arrete at 3800mtrs is no place to be with the wind blowing. You'll notice this from the valley if there are wispy clouds across
the ridge...then it the wind-chill can be really..and I mean really..numbing.
Once out of the wind the trip is likely to be ok... you may want to tralk to the guide about a variation of the route but he will want to see you ski before considering this, I'd think.

The classic path is little more than a side-slip after the initial descent past the Rognon so it will be the day that makes the experience not the skiing..unless you do Envers or the like.

Otherwise, everyone that doesn't have their little fave stash will head for the GM which is a great hill but a little overplayed with too many people, IMO.
If you haven't been there ( to the GM), you should go tho'... and get a ticket and the lift from the bottom station as it will likely be crowded and you need to book your slot on the top CC

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

dsoutar, Ditto JT, , best done on a sunny day. No point at all if you can't enjoy the view on the way down. If you don't manage to arrange a guide, it'st is worth going up the lift, and coming down on the lift for the view.

GM offers great skiing - just don't expect to get first tracks. A ride to the top of GM is worth it even with the queue - the top is a another good spot for a view.
