Poster: A snowHead

helmets- you can get very good TUV certified helmets from Lidl for about £6 if in stock- or you could in Mid December
socks- various places- thorlo do kids socks- muddy puddles or Lidl (guess which is cheapest)
don't forget some books( I'd strongly recommend Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- which is official ski holiday reading- 30 chapters just fits into a week perfectly) toys-not many DVDs afew in case there is a player
a spare ski suit is a good idea if there is any hot legging (also applies to dads who overdo the apres)
careful with suncream- there are 2 types- chemical and physical blocks- chemical blocks- you don't look like a ghost but some people are allergic to them/go red, physical blocks- you look like a ghost but your face won't explode.
if you are paranoid/cautious/careful/take prudent and appropriate precautions- what about some bits of paper in kids ski suits with photocopy passport/insurance details/your contact details in resort/NOK/tour operator
Duct tape
Black marker pen

Mirjam: As the old quote goes: When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money.
Have a great time.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Jackets: Personally I woudn't buy specialised padded ski jackets, but breathable waterproof shells with zipped fleece (3 in 1 if you can find them) Far more flexible both for skiing and back home (and better value as you get whole-year use). I see more small kids in ski resorts who are too hot than too cold. Try Peter Storm in Blacks or Millets or see below.
Sunglasses: MUST be level 3 protection and preferably level 4 - as per label when you buy them, don't assume just cos glasses are dark they'll provide proper protection from glare. Really only available in sports and specialist shops, so if you can't get them now, get them in resort. Oh and string thing to keep them round neck when not on face.
Those cheap pop-up net cubes, so each can have their things for skiing in separately but visibly. Also good for dirty washing.
Electric adaptors - a three-way boxy one then you only need one Euro adaptor. This year with 6 adults and 13 teenagers I thought I was mad taking that PLUS a 4-gang socket on a cable - but they were fully utilised with 3 laptops and all the phone/ipod/etc chargers we needed.
Tissues - those little packets, and make sure the kids each have one each day.
Sweets - keeping blood sugar up really needed (easy to spot with kids!)
Combined lipsalve/sun cream tubes - small enough to go in pockets or round neck. Always in ski shops, also in Decathlon.
Fabric labelling pen and permanent marker - for your kids stuff that you want to take home with you! Duck tape in case ski shop doesn't label the skis/boots/helmets. Everyone will have the same brand kit and it gets muddled up.
BEST place to shop - Decathlon. Which is OK if you can get to Sheffiled or Surrey Quays in s London (or any decent-sized town in France). Tchibo great if you time it right (getting a bit late now) and TK Maxx but can never guarantee stock. My sister knows a good outlet in York, and there's Togg24 place at Bicester (maybe this should be a new thread?).

SuburbanSkier, great tip re: pop-op net cubes, will keep my eyes peeled for some. Can echo what you say about electric adaptors, taking a 3-way box and a single euro plug is definitely the way to go, not yet progessed to a 4-gang strip though ! Also helps if everyone in the room uses the same type of mobile, thus meaning only one charger required.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you take a laptop, USB charging of other stuff is the way to go.

Although my phone has a usb socket for data transfer and syncing, it does not charge via USB, so just be sure before you leave your charger at home.

Mirjam, Looking at your shopping list I hope you don't forget an empty credit card on your shopping trip. You're brave trying to get it all in one hit - I bought bits and bobs over time for ages on my first trip with the children.

Mirjam, if this is not too late and you are going to buy kids helmets, try TKMaxx, they are clearing all the ski gear out at the moment and kids helmets is the one thing they do still seem to have a fair few of. They nearly always put them in clearance section of the kids toy dept.
