Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snow in Himos??

 Poster: A snowHead

Hey everyone,

I'm off to Himos (Finland) on 29th feb and I'm getting a bit worried about a lack of snow. Does anybody know what conditions in the area are like at the moment?

Cheers! Cool

Total13, welcome to snowHeads snowHead

I can't say that I'm too well up on my Finnish resorts. Do they have much skiing there?

you presumably have this website address? The temperature today is below freezing, and they say they have lots of snowmaking, so presumably it's pretty snowsure. Please report back on what it's like; will make a change from all our feedback on the French Alps or Wengen!!

I'm not a hugely experienced skier so the skiing/boarding at Himos is great for me. Plus I've always found the people, atmosphere, etc to be fab.

Cheers Pam...already have the website address. They do have snow making gear so the slopes will be fine but being a big kid I was hoping the whole area would be covered in snow. It always has been when we've gone in the past but I've heard Finland's not had too much falling from the sky this year. Little Angel

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

As a ski centre, Himos is indeed not too bad - as long as you don't look for extraordinary pistes. Amongst the ski centres in the relative south of Finland, it really stands out.

Regarding weather and snow, this year has been really dull. Now however, there should be enough, even though again the temps are going up. There has been changes of over 10 centigrades several times this year in Central Finland, and it has an impact even on the best artificial snow. Generally, it should be fine at this time of the year.

Have fun!

I'm hoping it'll be good as after a few years of telling friends how much we liked Himos, we've now got 8 others coming with us so the pressure's on me now.

Funny how when I'm at home I hate the cold but when I'm on holiday, the colder the better! snowHead
