when we go to chamonix for a short break my sons girlfriend is having a half day learn to ski lesson, she has never skied before , and dont know whether she will take to it or not, so we have been able to scrounge most of the kit she needs, but we need to buy some salopets , where is good to get cheap gear nowadays ???

Some Argos branches have skiwear. Our local ski shop sells second hand gear (ex hire) extremely cheap, usually good stuff in good condition. Look in charity shops, too.

Have a look on the Tchibo website. Stick 'ski' in the search box and bingo. Seems to be good enough kit; my kids have had sevearl pieces from thenm which have lasted very well. I have a brilliant windproof fleece from them, £20 about 4 years ago, best ski jacket I've ever had.

larry duff, richmond, The problem with Lidl, Aldi and Tchibo is that they all only have their stuff in for a week or two, and are unlikely to have any more in this season.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Always some good deals at outdoorsy-type shops at your local outlet mall. If you can get across the M62 to Castleford (J32) there's at least 4 such shops.

Certainly true of Tchibo, but they still have ski gear available to buy on their web site.

Try charity shops - the first time we went we kitted out all our children from charity shops

Hi Neilski,
If you're still in the Nantwich area you could try the Mountain Warehouse and Trespass factory shops at the Freeport Mall in Talke (just off the A500 between Audley and Newcastle).
I was in there at the weekend and they'd still got loads of skiwear on the racks...

Neilski, Cheshire Oaks outlet mall is not too far from you. There are at least 4 or 5 shops there doing ski gear. Mostly good quality at reasonable prices too. Also as another poster said TKMaxx, they are clearing out all their ski gear now so everything is reduced further. Depends if they have got something you like in the right size left though. Also Milletts branches have a sale on at the moment and have some reasonably priced gear.

Fair point but my Lidl still has ski and board gear in some weeks after it was released. Maybe the bigger ones keep it a bit longer if they have room on the shelves?

larry duff, Possibly. I only have experience of fairly small ones, and they often sell out within a few days.
