Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi. My interest now wetted by the thread on the infamous Harikiri piste, what can anyone tell me about this resort? I looking to book something beginning or mid March (not Easter week). Not a big nightlife fan and perfer short transfers. Only been to Austria once, Lech.

Apart from this steep run is there much to keep an advanced happy? I'm intermediate, but I don't want husband champing at the bit all week looking for steep stuff.

If you do a search on "Zillertal Valley" you should find the thread I did after visiting Mayrhofen mid Jan this year. The valley has 639km piste. Mayrhofen got about 150km and there are two other areas of similar size.

None of the other 6 unlinked areas have black runs as steep as Mayrhofen. If you want easy black try Hochziillertal at Kaltenbach at the front of the valley. If you after excitement go to Hintertux glacier at the deep end. Mayrhofen is about at the middle.

Beverley, First, if you are staying more than 3 days, the only pass you can get covers the whole of the Zillertal (including buses and trains), so you can stay anywhere in the valley and access all the ski areas.

If you don't want much nightlife, you might be better staying in Zell am Ziller than Mayrhofen itself, which has rather a reputation as a major nightlife centre. The transfer is about an hour from Innsbruck airport about 2:30 from Salzburg. 15 minutes more to Mayrhofen.

If husband is looking for on-piste steeps, then there really isn't much apart from the two rauns already mentioned in Mayrhofen. There are a few other blacks arond the valley, but none of them that I have seen have been particularly difficult blacks - any reasonable intermediate should be able to ski them.

But if he is happy to look for off-piste challenges, there is quite a lot of off-piste available, particularly in the Mayrhofen and Zillertal Arena areas, less so in the Kaltenbach area.
