Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

SCGB reprices membership deal for under 24s to £18 plus Salomon backpack "worth £45"

Sticking anything in the 'SCGB section' is sticking it where the sun don't shine. The 'SCGB section' is a deep dark well where humanity no longer exists. There's probably the odd woodlouse down there.

David Goldsmith, Just to really p!ss you off.

If you set up a direct debit, and then move banks not only do you get a free backpack, but the SCGB fail to realise you are no longer paying membership and still keep sending you membership stuff for ever and a day. (acording to my friend)

Thanks for that info, Odin. Obviously I think it's a great idea for members to be paying subscriptions, since it puts us all on a level playing field!

David Goldsmith, Looking further than the "David Goldsmith posted something about my Club, Mods please move it" comments.
I have actually learnt something useful from this thread.
As I stated earlier my daughter wants to join the Ski Club.
Having established that by joining in a resort, the membership period is extended by up to a year. This I was happily going to do.
But now if I go to whsmith get a code from a magazine I can get a free bcak pack worth more than the membership extension.
Without Davids enlightening post I would have purchased membership for my daughter in resort.
So thank you David Very Happy

boredsurfin, I hope that your daughter enjoys her membership and backpack, and well done with your investigations at WH Smith, a company which owes its origins to the founding of the British railway network.

Not a lot of people need to know that.

I disagree (oooh controversy).

I am not a SCGB member. I am not under 24 (by some margin). One member of my family is, and is interested to hear that the SCGB is promoting itself in this way.

They may be interested in exploring the offer.

Others in the ski community of GB, of which snowHead is an important part , who were not aware of this promotion, may also find it of interest.

Ergo, since it is potentially "of interest" to the wider UK ski scene, even if it is promoting a niche product, I think it should stay.

And, also "interestingly", possibly having a different effect to that potentially envisaged: in that the more people who hear about the offer, the more likelyhood there is of it being taken up, and then depending on your views on loss-leaders versus marginal versus subsidised cost, the more it will cost the SCGB / boost future full fee paying membership.

Interesting eh? And therefore, imho, a valid topic for discussion.

JimW, good point, as long as the discussion keeps to the point, and does not digress into petty squabbling about the club.

JimW, Yes, we all yearn for young blood in any organisations we belong to - perhaps a subconcious wish to relive our youth. Certainly a desire not to become crusties (breakable or otherwise).

One issue which arises in the subsidised youth membership debate (and this one is undoubtedly heavily subsidised - the Club actually used to charge a joining fee to reflect the extra cost of signing up new members) ...

... is the issue of voting rights. Any paying member of the SCGB has a vote. Obviously people will pay varying amounts for their votes, but in this case votes are almost being given away. I raised a similar issue a couple of years ago in relation to the Club giving away memberships to ski journalists.

Hacks should pay, in my view, the same way that everyone else pays. Any serious ski hack can afford £51 for a membership of the national club devoted to the sport they write about.

The danger is that small groups of members on cheap or free subscriptions could influence or take over the Club. There's a general voting apathy at the SCGB, so it wouldn't take that many votes.

Indeed. Allow me to re-phrase that. Here at the Ski Club of Transylvania we offer attractive membership rates to young virgins, including free bloodpacks.

.... and as we all know, this was the OP's millionth attempt ( hey, he exaggerates too ... ) to do precisely that ... ie set up a petty squabble/ 'debate' about 'the club', its management or its ' constitution. The headline here says one thing ... however, the content of the OP is designed to incite 'loyal' SCGB members or its management ....

... given that they all (inevitably) end up as slangiing match between the OP and his OPPOS ; I'll be fascinated to see which one iis called as 'enough' ... but I guess TB's presence is required for that. Maybe.

wink snowHead ... and I know it's not a 'Mod's' call.
