An avalanche swept through the alpine ski resort of Soelden yesterday afternoon, and rescue workers were searching for three people feared buried. Mountain rescue workers, alpine police and local employees were involved in the search. It was not immediately known if the missing people had been on the ski slopes....Source: http://www.pr-inside.com/rescuers-search-for-3-skiers-presumed-r415419.htm

Essentially these reports sayt the avalanche started about 4pm in the Gaislachkogels(?) area of the Solden free-skiing region (off-piste?). One skier in a party of 4 was carried away/buried by it but his companions got him out uninjured & took him to the doctor.

An interesting escape of a lady who fell into a pit today in another Tyrolean resort.
http://www.tirol.com/chronik/unterland/76278/index.do (German!)
A female skier from Slovenia skied on the partially closed blue run in the resort of Kirchberg after 16:00.
She did not notice that only the beginning of the run was prepared, and then she left the piste, followed a track which led her to a pit.
She fell into the pit and was unable to get out of it. She called her friends and was waiting for her rescue.
She used the flashlight of her digital camera to inform the rescue team on her whereabouts in the total darkness.
They found her at 20:30.
