I don't do anything mad but last season bought a helmet. 2 reasons 1. My daughter was going to try skiing for the first time and I wanted to set her a good example and 2. The Rep who was showing us around on the first day concussed himself on the first run of the day in a very inocuous looking fall.
Now that I've spent the money I'm going to wear it.

I'm a fence sitter and here are the options:
1. I wear one because I want to.
2. I don't wear one because I don't want to.
Everything else is just BS.

Don't wear one for cycling to/from the station which is infinitely more dangerous though so no logic in my view.

Am on day 2 of the annual "I'm not wearing my helmet" . . . "Oh Yes you are" argument with my 15-year-old. We have 2 more weeks of this before we go and I'm grinding my teeth already. Showing him the comments on the other thread on the topic hasn't made a difference. All the emotional blackmail, threats etc are piling up on all sides.
Suggestions please!

I'm guessing it's his own helmet, ie not hired? I reckon giving kids a smelly hire-shop helmet is a bit harsh.
Take him to the park and watch the freestylers - no doubt, alot of them will be wearing helmets.

Still no votes for the thixothropic option - helmets lined with toothpaste/ketchup as far as I can tell.

Megamum, the highets number of votes ever on a snowheads poll, and no one has even threatened to leave snowheads either, but when you ask for 'no chit chat' you are asking for trouble

Wow!! Mind you we already knew there was a lot of interest in the subject. I still wonder the gel beany wearers are - there were several in the other thread that claimed to be using them. Maybe they are not interested because I put 'helmet' in the thread title maybe I'll change it later.

Generally all the time, although yesterday had couple runs on dry slope after a pop in the bar so I couldn't be bothered getting one of the plenty helmets they have there. That was first time I've skied sans helmet in perhaps three, four years.

Just read something that said 40% of sliders in the US wear a helmet. I'd think it is much less in Europe - anyone seen a figure?

I haven't voted as there isn't really an option. I don't have a helmet. I have tried on loads of them, and they are either uncomfortable or do not fit properly. I have enough problems getting an adult hat to fit my head, never mind a helmet. problems I have had-ones that fit are childrens ones, and look like childrens one. I can't hear anything. Too big.Wrong shape. Chin strap chokes me. I will continue to look.

Helen Beaumont, I too have a small head, I found that the R.E.D. female XS fits as snug as a bug, nice adjustable padded chin strap. Also comes in decent colours or designs too if you like that kind of thing
