Poster: A snowHead

About 2 hours ago I received the 09 Icelantic samples. The line up is the same as this year BUT the Shaman will also some in a 184cm (160/110/130), the Nomad in a 181 (140/105/130) the Pilgrim in 179cm (127/90/115) and the Scout and Scout SFT. They're also doing a symetrical Jib ski called the DaNollie in 161, 171 and 181.

DB, These aren't official as I've not got the specs from Icelantic but from weighing them the 179cm pilgrim is 4lbs the 181cm Nomad is 4.10lbs and the 184cm Shaman is 4.20lbs. As they are samples the production skis may differ slightly but they won't be a million miles off.
spyderjon, yup

jedster, don't stick freerides on a ski that you expect to ski hard, they suck, especially a fat ski. To be fair, it's not that they suck, it's just that now with Dukes I don't see why anyone would ski Freerides. Dynafit for touring. Dukes for skiing with the odd side skin. |
I have freerides on my 193 DP Pros and on my 201 DP Pros, weigh over 100kgs and ski pretty hard. I find that the light weight of the binding is an advantage and unless jumping off cliffs (which I don't) then they are good all-round bindings. Why go to DIN 16 if you don't need to? The only undemanded release has been on piste carving hard on the 201s behind an ex-swiss ski team loon on GS skis... Pick the right gear was the learning point that day. The Duke is very heavy and also somewhat complicated which would concern me in freezing conditions.

I think that the graphics are a step backwards from last year's models.

Powderhound, gah - my attempt at humour undermined by useless spelling
back to the topic of freerides/dukes - i've just made the change and they are definitely nicer to ski than freerides. they are also heavier so skinning is a bit of a chore. that said, skinning with 201cm stocklis is probably a bit of chore whatever bindings you stick on them! i don't think freerides suck. for a long time they were the best available. i think when people say they suck they usually mean "they aren't as good for the downhill as a high quality pair of downhill bindings"

Arno, fair point. I'm not quite as current as I should be with the meaning of these modern words.... Bahhh!
