Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Heading to Bourg St Maurice - Different resort each day - Suggestions

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey up, a group of 4 of us are heading off 1st of Feb for a 9 day trip, were staying in Bourg St Maurice for the week & plan to head up to a different resort each day or to wherever theres some powder Very Happy

Any suggestions for lesser known places in the vicinity, we don't mind a drive, have a 4wd so access should not be much of problem.

Current obvious plans are St Foy, Val, Tignes, Le Rosiere, Les Arcs anywhere else lesser known? suggestions welcome.

If you;re based in BSM I think the resorts in strking distance are those you;ve listed above, plus La Plagne. There are various entry points to some of the resorts - e.g, for "les arcs" you have Villaroger, Arc 2000, Arc 1950, Arc 1800, Arc1600, Peisey and Vallandry which sounds like there are loads but are as I said all access points to single domain. I can't think of any other resorts in the Tarentaise valley, you'd have to drop down to moutiers and then maybe head out to the 3 valleys? That'd be at least an hour;'s drive though

I think with that little lot you shouldn't run out of piste..personally I'd think 9 days and you might start to do justice to Les Arcs / La Plagne let alone the rest...

La Rosiere is not too far a drive ...............

There is a long drag lift further down the valley which takes you to an excellent touring area - can't think of the name off hand, but it begins with a 'G'....I'll get back to you on this shortly, when I have done some work....

Cptsideways, with 9 days you've got the opportunity to ski every resort in the Haute Tarentaise, I'd recommend getting a lift pass which gives you preferential prices at other Tarentaise resorts, with a weekly or longer lift pass in La Rosiere we get preferential rates in Ste Foy, Val D'Isere, Tignes, and Les Arcs. No need to drive to get to La Rosiere, there's a free navette from the bus station to the Les Ecudets chair lift every day. You should try some heli-skiing, La Rosiere is the only resort in France where heli-skiing is permitted in its ski area.

Cptsideways,

Did something similar last year. Worked fab for us. (La Ros, La Thuile, Les Arc, La Plagne & Tignes). You'll have a great time.

Within the valley, option's are;

La Rosiere (c. 1 hour from BSM) - La Thuile can be reached easily from La R and in our opinion has better skiing. It should be worth a day's trip in it's own right.

Val d'Isere and Tignes (c. 1 hour from BSM) - Large combined ski area that you won't ski out in a week. We didn't reach Vd'I but did do Tignes. Underground parking is in the centre of Tignes la Lac and the ticket office, ski rental and lifts are on a plaza on the car park roof. Alternatively, large above ground car park further on in Le Val Claret. The gentle blue Genepe winds most of it's long run in an isolated valley and gave us a rare "stop and soak up the athmosphere" moment.

La Plagne & Les Arc; Large linked resort but not this winter as Vanoise Express is out of commission. Large free parking at Aime la Plagne, I don't know about others. Some else might advise. Again you can spend a few days covering the various Les Arc & la Plagne sectors in turn. Again, La P is about an hour from BSM. I don't know about Les Arc but there is a mountail rail link.

Finally, Ste Foy is about 30-40 mins from BSM. We didn't go there so I cannot comment.

Enjoy.

boredsurfin, I've only ever seen it in the morning going up the hill, as far as I'm aware its arrival time at Les Ecudets is 0900 so that would mean leaving BSM gare at around 0830, the evening service leaves Les Ecudets at 1630 so it would get back to BSM at about 1700, it's a free service.
