Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski length question.

Hi.
My girlfriend is on the look out for some new skis and I've found a pair of Rossi B2 Bandits for a good price. The problem is that they are 148cm and I'm not sure if they might be a little bit short for her. She is about 5'4" and weighs about 8 1/2 stone and is a good intermediate skier.
Any thoughts?

dirty.hands, I think they're too short also. I'd be looking at 160cm+

Spyderman, Yeah, I kinda thought that. I was thinking 160cm tops, but do you think that she could go a bit longer?

dirty.hands, I'm 5'6", 9 stone, good intermediate, and I ski on 154cm Volkls. Does she like the B2s? I had a pair of B1s for a while (160cm) and they did absolutely nothing for my skiing.

Spyderman, If she went into a shop for rental (or to buy) there's no way a ski sales person would offer her that length of ski.

A friend of mine (5ft 3, 8 stone) skied on 146cm rental skis last year - loved the ski but found them too short. Has now bought the same model in a 154cm length and is loving them.

I'd say 148 i definately too short for a 5foot4, 8 and half stone lady.

I'm a smidge over 9 stone and ski on 160cm.

erica2004, The Rossi B2 is an off-piste orientated ski. dirty.hands, girlfriend is about 163cm tall, good intermediate, 160 - 165 is perfect for that ski. On piste carver obviously shorter, say down to 152.
Why would the ski tech not give that size?
The B2 replacement is now the B78 women and comes in 148, 158, 166, 174.
Of those sizes I'd say 148 way too short, 174 too long, 158 or 166 are the ones to go for, but worth trying both for personal preference.

Hi.

Thanks for your advice. We've had a look at link above and taken other factors into consideration and reckon that somewhere around 155 - 162cm is gonna be about right.

Now all we need to do is find her some skis.(before next Sat) Little Angel

Spyderman, I would think because the lass is only 8.5 stone - that's quite light and in my experience (being 5'6" and 9st) I've always been handed skis that are about 155cm. Mind you that's for on piste skiing. So, off piste skis need to be longer? Why, if they're fatter? And doesn't the skier's weight have a bearing on things?,
snow conditions
 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
erica2004, Off-piste skis are fatter to provide greater surface area to provide floatation and skied longer to give stability, so they're less likely to be deflected in the turns. Weight/strength/ability/height/age/sex/personal preference all have bearings on the length of ski chosen.
