Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Adventures in telemarking...

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I had my first taste of powder on telemark skis on Saturday. I say "taste" quite deliberately because the transition between piste and powder turned out to be, by far, the hardest thing to do. The problem being that the lead ski hits the powder; the trailing ski catches up; your weight goes forward and you do a full tele-faceplant. I am, at least, consistent - with a 100% record of eating snow on each and every transition.

I must admit that I'm finding this learning telemark lark a very interesting experience - having improved substantially by making the binding more active (as per ski's advice) and (probably) by having given my brain / body time to assimilate stuff.

So, two weeks ago, I could barely control my speed. Edging didn't exist and I was over-steering. And now I seem to be able to carve on green runs and gentle blues with nice, smooth, progressive lead changes. I even managed to make a fist of getting down an un-pisted red. It wasn't pretty, but I was (largely) telemarking.

Have any of the other telemark beginners managed to get out "for real" so far?
