very pleased with my Level gloves from S&R - actually snowboard gloves - with lots of abrasion padding on fingers, long wrist gauntlets, and (best bit) removable fleece liners - so you can wash them (as my hands stink ). Shells have thin inner fleece, so often ski without the liners or with thin thermal gloves. Only use the thick fleece when v.cold

Ethanboy, you'll get lots of suggestions... brands like Hestra, Level etc etc. However, there are only a very small number of far-eastern glove manufacturers and they make for all the different brands. At one stage the Atlas Glove Company made for just about every brand going so it didn't matter what the brand on the glove was, it was still an Atlas glove just like all the rest. Not surprisingly the same manufacturing method and raw materials will be common to loads of brands. The waterproof/breatheable glove liner is the important bit... both Goretex and Event give licenses to various brands but only if a certain level of quality and technical excellence is employed. Brands that specialise in gloves (like Hestra, Reusch, Level) are a better bet as they specify a higher spec to the manufacturer.

Best I have had were a pr of Invicta gauntlets which had a leather palm and fingers which I like with a Goretex and fur lining. Really warm and I haven't been able to replace them.
I currently use Hestra and Eider gauntlets. The Eiders are better but are on the way out. I doubt I'll find them again either.
I'll be on the lookout soon for Leather palmed gauntlets pretty soon, I think.
FWIW, I treated both my pairs of gloves with a polish today to give the leather a helping hand.

Bode Swiller, I think that's a far better response to this question (which I think we've also visited before recently) - everyone seems to have their favourites and I guess its something that is as subjective as boots and skis - I found your response very informative.

I bought a nice pair of Reusch mitts in T K Maxx two weeks ago.

pam w, They have some beauties in our TKMAXX too - I got a lovely pair of black rossignols with orange trim - all gore tex finished for £20 - you can't go wrong at that sort of money. Also, headplant managed to find orange tresspass ones to match my outfit - they were only about £15 or so. I am pleased with both pairs. I've been skiing in Rossignol goretex gloves for the last two years and have been really pleased with the warmth and dryness and wanted a spare pair. The Tresspass gloves are thinner and will be good for warmer days, but they also have a pocket on the back for a handwarmer so when I have a cold day I'll have to see what work best - thin ones with a handwarmer or the thick ones.

I was marvelling at my Level gauntlets today. They still look like new and they must have been used over 80 times. They have a goretex mitt and a removable fleece fingered inner glove. The best combination IMO.

I agree. My OH got a pair of Millet mitts like that, at the same T K Maxx. They didn't have any to fit me. I'm sure the £90 gloves are better - I've wondered about it - but there aren't that many really cold days in Europe, and for those I use handwarmers. I ski for many weeks during the season and have never had a problem with my various T K Maxx purchases - though I was very sad to lose one of a super pair of Scott mitts with fleece inners, in Flaine. Was weird. Took one off to fiddle with lift pass. Got the gate open - mitt gone. Stood there looking for it, then stepped aside and looked for it. Everywhere. Had not moved from the spot, but it was gone. I have one left... I was very cross, especially as I had to ski back to car park to get my spare pair. But not as cross as I would have been if they'd cost £90!

After trying many brands, my vote also goes for Level.

I'm very fond of my Swany gloves (bought in USA, not sure how widely available they are in Europe). They're warm, dry, comfortable, effectively ventilated, wearing well and just the right length for me.
