Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Scottish resorts in March

We'll be heading over to Scotland by car in mid March via Troon. As yet we haven't decided our itinerary, other than a couple of days we have to spend visiting relations near Dundee, so we'll be travelling right across Scotland and back again.
If the weather conditions are suitable (ie. there's snow) we'd like to fit in a bit of skiing for a couple of days.
So which resort would you all recommend for myself, a four year old newbie and a wife who may or may not be able to partake at that time?

Since you'll be in Dundee then Glenshee would be ideal. Provided it's open (looks great at the moment) it will tick all of the boxes. If not the Lecht, whilst it is the lowest of all 5 resorts, has some cannons, so it should be OK. If that all fails you'll need to go on the big purple choo-choo at Cairngorm.

If you are out west at any point then Nevis is OK for newbies, but Glencoe isn't the best place for newbies.

Would second Glenshee, its got some nice greens which I liked when I first skied in Scotland, the only real beginers bit I can think of though is the tiny poma and it can be absolutley heaving I found Glencoe a bit tough as its much wilder and less pisted. The beginers area at Cairngorm is really nice and very snowsure as its at the top of the mountain but there is a lot of argument at the moment about the lack of lifts for better skiers, I've never been at the Lech but have heard it is good for beginers and am planning to take some young relatives there at some point in the season, only been at nevis once so again not much opinion but the blue past the terrain park was quite gentle.

Thats excellent, thanks.
I'll have a look at Glenshee, but most of them seem suitable given good conditions.
We'll maybe wait and book our accomoation just before we go so we can pick the one with best conditions at the time.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

cormid80,

Just go with a flexible mind. There will be snow somewhere. End of season tends to be better in my experience. Although it is looking amazing right now!!!

johnboy, Thats what I'm thinking, I'm willing to go to anywhere as Mrs Cormid80 wants to see a bit of the country, so we'll be travelling about a fair bit.
I'm really looking forward to getting the wee lad up on skis too.
