Poster: A snowHead

New Zealander Edmund Hillary who, with Sherpa Norgay Tenzing, were the first men to stand at the summit of the World's Highest Mountain, has died in hospital in Auckland. The two men, part of a British organized expedition, summited the 29,035-foot peak Everest on May 29, 1953.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Two threads going on this now (the other is in Apres) - I must admit I can't see what this thread is doing in The Piste - though better this than a civil dispute about rent payments - but I do recognise Sir Edmund as a great man.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I would have thought Piste or Snownews was more appropriate than Apres (sorry didn't check) as it is the kind of thing Snowheads covers.

yes. definitely belongs in "the piste!". One of mountaineering's greatest moments. I remember it well. The ascent of Everest made a much bigger impression on me than the Coronation, no doubt because my dad loved mountains; he kept the special articles in The Times for years and years. Showing my age....
