Poster: A snowHead

Not long (still too long though) until we head to claviere and montgenevre for our ski trip.
last year was the first time we'd been to montgenevre so there wasn't much scope for off piste when we were there due to lack of snow... this year is a different kettle of fish though.
Can anyone recommend a guide or route in the area? rocher de l'aigle (up to the left when looking at the main area from the village) looks like it holds much potential.
Any info much appreciated.

Definatly try out Rocher D'aigle and some from the top of Le Chalvet. There is a lot of variety from the top of Rocher D'Aigle.
There are lots of places you can get to by skins especailly on Le Chalvet side.
Death Valley is a gulley well worth checking out. It has lots of jumps and is very narrow, but not very steep. Its in Les Gondorans below the chairlift itself.
There isnt that much scope for off piste anyway. Lots of little bits here and there.

Might be worth contacting ESF or APeak for a guide.

High traversing skiers left at the top of the Coletto Verdi run on Italian side (route back to Claviere from Eagles Rock) opens up a ton of potential down into Claviere. Does tend to be a lee slope so more avvy risk than the Eagles Rock side. Coletto Verdi is usually mogulled and horrible anyway...
Also underneath the corniced bowl skiers right at top of Chalvet lift gives good steeps and tree skiing, and jumping the cornice is always a laugh...
Back of Janus also offers some potential for skiing down to the road but you would most probably need a guide for that to find the way

Can't really agree. Did a season there in 1996 and found the offpiste to be fun and accessible, especially on the Italian side where they only ski on the pistes anyway... at least they did three years ago when I was last there...

My one day there quite a few years ago, on an excursion with guide from La Grave, we certainly did some good untracked areas quite far from the pistes - mostly needing some climbing and / or traverses. One down to the road through the trees (the guide hitched a lift to fetch his van afterwards) made a memorable finish, but required a trudge up a hill for about 25 minutes to get to the start. I don't know which that would have been since I didn't look at a map at the time but we walked from about a mid station level.

Italian side or french side? If it was down towards Briancon it sounds like the back of Janus that I mentioned above.

That sounds like the French side to Briancon.
Colleto Verde was closed and had lots of stones on, which ruined the bottom of your skis at christmas. The black going down to the off piste area was closed for a good reason. I think it has been reopened now due to fresh snow.
It seems to be snowing heavily at the moment.

I own a place in Montgenevre. Off-piste is excellent if you know how to find it. Contact Seb, the boss of A Peak, and ask him to organise an off-piste guide for you. Tell him Andy (that's me!) recommended him to you...you'll have a brilliant time.
I'm in Montgenevre now...the snow is phenomenal.
