Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Instructors in Mayrhofen

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am going to Mayrhofen for 2 weeks in march, staying in Lannersbach, and was looking for a recommendation for a good instructor for private lessons.

I am just back from a week in Zermatt where I had a 2.5hr private lesson along with my boyfriend. I enjoyed the lesson but the Instructor didn't get us to do any drills and wasn't that critical of my skiing. This was my 7th week skiing and my 4th year and I suppose by now I can get down most things but I really struggle where its really icy or narrow and steep. I said this to the instructor and she said so does everyone and that this will just come with more time on snow, she talked about braquage and demonstrated this but said it is quite an advanced thing. I have read the "getting the most from you instructor thread" and did most of the things suggested in there. I told her to tell me everything I was doing wrong as I didn't want to pick up bad habits and asked a lot of questions.

Do you think it is too hard for an instructor to teach 2 people of different abilities ( as my boyfriend and I are) and its best to just pay the extra to have the instructor all to yourself?

Private lessons are quite expensive and I don't really want to pay £90 to follow the instructor around for 2 hours being told I'm skiing well when I'm not so would really value a recommendation for a really tough instructor

I'm working just down the Valley at Finkenberg with Skischule Sunny. Don't know what my schedule is like but you're welcome to contact me through the ski school. If I'm not available, I'm sure there is someone who can help.

Lynseyf,
We will be out there from the 15th March for a week. The SMT and Everest Ski Schools are both pretty good in the village. SMT in particular are very good for one on one classe. Happy skiing

If you're as competent as I gather from your post, I wouldn't pull any punches. You don't sound as though you're looking for the standard tourist package.

Incidentally, I'm British and trained by both BASI and Austrian coaches.

Braquage is an excellent drill, but only a small piece of the puzzle.

Also, alpinecoaching.co.uk may be a site of great interest for any future excursions. Highly recommended.

I wouldn't say I'm that competent, just more aware how much it would take for me to get there. I don't want to get stuck in the rut of being able to get about when conditions are good but losing all control when it all goes bad or I'm outside my comfort zone.
