Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ride Society or Rome Agent

Looking to get a new board to replace by old Timeless.

The Timeless was great when I wanted to charge everywhere. These days, I don't always want to charge - age makes me a little less relentless and the hangovers seem to have a greater effect...

I am also doing more larking about - riding switch a lot, popping off the tip of tail into and out of switch, buttering, etc. The Timeless is not great for that.

So I'm looking for a board that is less "all or nothing" when riding, easier to do tricks on but still able to stick it on the hardpack and still able to float on the powder.

I've looked at proper freestyle boards (Ride DH, etc) but think they may be too soft as all-rounders and so have narrowed it down to a Ride Society (157) or a Rome Agent (158).

Any thoughts?

Tony Lane,

I replaced my Ride Timeless last year with a Nitro Suprateam for similiar reasons to your own. Its more flexy and manoeuvrable but still rocks the piste and pow runs when required.

Both good boards but I think I would plump for the Society as I prefer the graphics. Have you looked at the Lib Tech TRS?

ah yes, I recall looking at the Suprateam in previous years when I was beginning to think along these lines. Looks like a great board.

I don't seem to be able to find a stockist of Nitro or Lib Tech in London, and I hate buying things like this over the internet.

I think I'm leaning towards the Society as well...

You should be OK if you buy a new board. I got my Suprateam online from www.ss20.com but not sure if they stock Nitro anymore.

You can get a TRS at..http://www.sickandwrong.co.uk/item/prod/Lib+Tech+TRS/1517/

Graphics are pretty cool. But Society is a top board.

Ok, decision made, just popped out at lunchtime and got the Society. It is now gleaming at me across my office.

A nice wax this weekend and I'll be ready for Chatel on Wednesday...

Can't wait.

funny that you should say that, but I did think about trying some ollies in the open plan section of my floor! Toofy Grin

the stairs have metal edges to the treads, so are probably best avoided.

I actually quite like them now - but the 157 is a lot nicer than the 160!

waxed it and put the bindings on over the weekend. was buttering and ollieing on my spare room floor, and the difference from my Timeless is remarkable.

2 days to go!

Well, that was fun.

The Society was a lot more versatile than the Timeless. Its edges gripped well when the pistes were hard (as on the last morning, when the thaw from the previous afternoon had frozen overnight) and was good enough in powder, although I did have to keep my weight a bit further back due to the centred stance and the shorter nose (and the board being a 157 rather than a 161).

But switch riding was miles better, buttering and ollies were better and landings off jumps were solid rather than painful.

Didn't try jibbing apart from sliding along and jumping off the picnic table in The Stash in Avoriaz, but that was cool in itself.
