Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mecure at Val Thorens

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi - my wife and I are planning a trip sometime in March for Val Thorens.

Found a deal for Mecure Hotel. The location looks quite good but has anyone stayed there before and have any comments on it? How about other hotels? Ideally, we would like to ski to door.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome to snowHead
The Mecure (old Novatel) is a great hotel right on the piste.
If you hire gear, there is a shop down stairs (ski technic) which is the only shop in VT with direct access to the piste.
The ski lockers are on the piste (via the terrace) so it is a ski in ski out hotel.
Good choice of hotel.

Hey thanks Guys. Have anyone actually stayed there before? Since we'll be taking a half board arrangement, I was just wondering how the food is...

Deciding between this hotel and hotel val thorens... the latter being about £150 per person more. Puzzled

Hotel Val Thorens is lovely and very central (and I used to work there!). Can't comment further on the Mercure (though I also sometimes now work at the Mercure in Bath, UK!)

BMF_Skier, I think it is still privately owned by a chap called M Perkov (of Eastern European origin). It's probably the equivalent of a 4 star hotel over here. I used to play piano there in the evenings!

It has a great location, right on the piste in the centre of the resort, nice internal architecture (a main central atrium / reception / lounge area with lots of wooden beams etc), good restaurant and food, and pleaseant rooms.

Enjoy your stay!
