Hi. I just registered yesterday but have been reading the forums here for some time. I'd just like to take two seconds to say thanks to all the thoughtful, intelligent posters here at snowheads. The snow reports and resort tips are especially useful.
So, well done on a great site and thanks for all the good advice!

I'd like to add my thanks also to you guys and girls who post on the Forum
As a newcomer to Snowheads and a newbie to skiing in general, it's really useful to hear peoples' thoughts on a variety of matters. You can read as many articles on the net or in magazines as you like, but getting it first hand from someone is (in my humble opinion) far more valuable. And being a beginner getting the low down on even the basics is great......keep up the great work folks and I promise that I'll try not to ask too many dumb questions
My first ski trip is booked for Himos in Finland at the end of Feb. I have several Finnish friends so it would be rude to not accept their offer to take me skiing  I'm told that Himos should be ideal for a novice - not too challenging runs, lots of wide open spaces.....it's going to be very very different from the dry slope that I've been learning on in Brum. The one thing that everyone has assured me is that skiing on the real stuff is so much easier/nicer than the ole astroturf.....for one thing, you don't get carpet burns when you take a tumble!!!

May be that's where I'm going wrong - the old snow plough turn is a real pain, but when it comes to slalom, I can take two gates at the same time!!
