Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alternative to Atomic Metron B5

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm off to La Thuile in 4 weeks time and am going to be hiring skis again.

Last year I hired B5s (1.62m) in the UK and took them over with me (we were in Serre Che for 10days and flying with BA so it worked out cheaper than hiring in resort).

I loved these skis, they were very responsive to being pushed through the turns on the piste (both short and medium), short enough to make moguls fun and I'm sure would have performed well in powder off piste had there been any...

My problem is that in all the resorts that I've hired skis in the past (quite a few) I have never seen B5s available.

I'm looking for advice from wise snowheads as to what alternative options I might find in resort.
I'm a fit(ish) chap who's skiied for circa 10 weeks and enjoys sweeping carving turns on piste as well as aggressive short slalom style turns, can manage most bumps (Tortin, Mont Fort etc), and is just starting to dabble off piste. So I guess I'm looking for 70:30 - Piste:Off Piste.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Try Head Supershape Magnum or Rossi Zenith Z9

Spyderman,

Thanks for the alternatives, they both look like great skis with good reviews,

I'll have some options now when the hire shop doesn't have the B5's...

My son and I ski B5 metrons and we hired the latest rossignols when we went for a few days to chamonix inn december 07. They were this years models and they were brilliant on piste. very responsive and really good fun to ski. we almost thought of buying them. they made us feel we were really really good skiers. may not be so good off piste though

mwareing, just had fun with Salomon X-wing Tornados.... great carvers, good off-piste - not sure about moguls as I'm incompetant on/in them Confused

Advantage of them is they're widely available in hire shops...

As you probably already know, a decent shop will let you change the skis as often as you like, so well worth trying a few to get a taste of different styles?
