Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Buying a sit-ski... what make to go for? New or used?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I want to buy a sit ski and would love to have some advice from people about what make to go for, what sort of specifications to look our for and the such-like. Is it always better to buy a new one and get it made exactly the right size for you or can second-hand ones be modified?

I've only done two weeks of sit-skiing but am already looking to spend another month or two this year really focusing on the sport and seeing if I get into some downhill racing...

So... regarding sit-skis.

What makes are the best to for? I've heard lots of people talking about Praschbergers so am tempted to get one of their's.... how long do they take to make from scratch? How much do they normally cost? Can you adapt them for downhill racing or moguls or off-piste?

Is it foolish to buy second-hand when I can afford to buy new?

Any other thoughts, tips or advice?

Many thanks,
Charlie Smile

The uphill ski club might be able to help http://www.uphillskiclub.co.uk/

Also Prosneige is a Ski School in Val Thorens that we use at the EoSB. I believe one of the directors has a son who rides a sit-ski. As a result the ski school has specialised a bit in that area so they may be able to offer some first hand advice. If you contact them, tell them you heard about than at snowHeads, they speak good English.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

snowHead choodalls is a member of the British Adaptive Ski Team, I don't think he logs on very often though - you could try sending him a private message.

Cheers for the thoughts. I probably should have said that I am currently in the UK and will be heading out to the States in the next week or so. I'm hoping to be skiing in February and have just heard back from Praschberger who say that sit-skis are delivered within 4-5 weeks of the order being placed... which sounds great! Smile
