Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hopefully it shows snow at Raise this am.

Radar is also showing a couple of hours of moderate snow and strong westerly winds since then so it should be filling in for tomorrow ?

Raise has been operational now on and off for almost three weeks. The big northerly dump on Saturday night was helpful and this mornings webcam pic still shows overall cover. The tow is scheduled to run again today.

More heavy snow on a southerly wind is forecast above 400m tommorow morning and that could help load the 'hut face'. It may also make the extreme runs 'Helvellyn Direct' (51 degrees) and Brown Cove, skiable next week Razz

Could be good on Raise over the weekend if the wind isn't too strong and stays south westerly.

I'm hoping to be allowed out to play again Little Angel

Currently 6C in North Yorkshire and about the same in Penrith. Howhill, Alston is showing about 4C and westerly wind 25mph. Radar is showing heavy precipitation so could be a marginal heavy snow event tonight up on Raise. The report was good skiing this morning on Spring snow with new heavy wet snow this afternoon.

Hopefully there won't be any loss tonight.

The forecast tommorrow is westerly winds 25mph with snow showers down to 600m. Should be a reasonable day with the weather improving.

Hope to get some Tele turns in on Sunday. Any Snowheads or Winterhighlanders heading up tommorrow? snowHead

Unfortunately too busy tomorrow, shame as it is lashing it down in Penrith at the moment, so could be some nice fresh stiff arriving on the tops.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Srobbo,

Just too warm last night for the fresh stuff, but no overall loss. This afternoon when the sun came out we had some great skiing which made up for this mornings drenching. Laughing

Two of the party left early to have an attempt on Helvellyn direct, one of England's few extreme ski decents. If they get any decent pictures I'll try and post them.

Norris - sorry......just the before and after pics. The problem is that unless you are the right distance and angle away it tends to flatten out the slope, even at 55 degrees ! Also because it faces north its in shade in the late afternoon.

Arno, its actually not that difficult in Spring snow. It just takes a bit of committment to leap off and land that first turn, the rest is easy Cool

I did it in 1990 after first watching a monoskier miss that turn and stack up. Imagine 100 people lining the summit of Helvellyn on a Good Friday, suddenly going very quiet as they see a tumbling rag doll heading for inevitable death on the rocks above Red Tarn. Skullie

Then imagine my glee when she stops just before the rocks and I realise that if I fall I'm not going to die - Wa heyyy - Weeeeeeeeeeee - compress-rebound - edge bite - Joy ! Then climb straight back up for another go. snowHead (she was only a little bit bruised and shaken).

Norris,

A video has now been placed on the club website;

Apparently the sight of ski tracks down the face of Helvellyn the next day, prompted a few angry letters to the Editor of the Westmorland Gazette and even the BBC Countryfile Magazine Laughing Laughing
