Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A good Jan storm during Friday and overnight, with heavy drifting of the Cairngorm Plateau into the Northern Corries, and heavier snow falls at Glenshee and the Lecht. Lecht is open with 7 lifts to start, Glenshee is hopeing to get the nod for the Braemar side of the A93 shortly and the southern end should open later, again 7 lifts planned. Further out will be checked out subject to the weather.

Looking promising on the Gorm this morning:



However ploughs still doing battle with the drifting on the link road on the south to south west winds. Steady force 9 at the top all morning.

Basically I had the impression in the past that the access road at Cairngorm was buit on what could have been the best lower ski slopes - the road always had big drifts on each side even when the lower ski slopes were thin!!
Winterhighland, keep us informed please. I might try to come up later next week if the snow lasts.

Is that from a camera on the Scottish Ski Club hut? Looks like the cable has been removed from the White Lady t-bar. Is the M1 tow the most popular way up now, or do lots of people take the top half of the funicular?

David Goldsmith, the White Lady Tow suffered a catastrophic failure of the bullwheel bearings on 3rd Feb last year when fitters were running it in reverse to move a maintenance carrier that was on the line. The bullwheel was catapulted down the hill!

11 months on the cable lies where it fell, on some towers, off others, disappearing into the grass and heather in bits, rotting in the burn in others. rolling eyes rolling eyes rolling eyes Mad

snowball, absolutely. It would make a fantastic ski run, snowmaking would quite possibly be more manageable in the shelter of the trees and below the Daylodge is usually below the inversion layer in settled high pressure conditions.
