Why are Marker M11 so cheap?
At Sport Conrad, K2 Public Enemies are 329 euro fully assembled with M11, and every other binding, including the usual rossignol and salomon offerings, regardless of din range is at least 40 euro more.
Are the M11s a bad choice?
Are they just a bit heavier, or does safety come into it?
Thanks

element, I don't know, but my K2 BLs from Sport Conrad came with marker bindings - I thought it was weight but also interested to know.

element, I also found Marker 11s very cheap when I got them fixed to the skis I bought earlier this year. Doing a few searches on t'internet, I found that they have a pretty poor reputation in North America so that might account for it. But nothing wrong so far with them for what I use my skis for. I suppose it depends what you're planning to ski.

snowshine, been reading on TGR then. You'd think Mr Marker had shagged all their daughters reading some of the comments on that site.

M11 bindings are cheap because they are manufactured mostly from very light plastic, as you go up in the range they become more robust and heavier with more steel and stronger plastics used in the construction. The M12.0 free is a better choice for freeride, but i would think that so many stores sell the M11 basically to keep their package price cheaper.
I also believe that Marker are not neccessarily less safe than any other bindings..
All bindings must be tested in the US after fitting, to make sure the din reading is correct, and its just that some years ago [ in the days of M29-M51sc etc for anyone that remembers or had them] they had a high failure rate...although its just a case of resetting the actual din rather than what it says in the window
so its most likely a historical thing...

No experience of M11s, but I've got new Marker Griffins on my fat skis and found them pretty good. Nice and light, solid feel when clipping in, no pre-release issues, release fine during shunts. They look a bit plasticky on first impression, but they seem fairly tough and overall I'm quite impressed after 3 weeks use.

A couple of my friends have had 2 or 3 weeks on these bindings now and they haven't had any problems, they've released when needed and haven't prereleased. They're not excessively aggressive skiers, but they're not slow or delicate. They seem to be holding up well.
