Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

that's them Smile IN a bad snow year they had quite good conditions as few people were willing to hike Wink Not drops though, just a steep / narrow entrance and a pretty commiited ski.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

holidayloverxx, Knowing your skiing. Erase the idea of doing the 'Knot Chutes' this trip. Something to look forward to on future trips though. Very Happy

holidayloverxx, Excellent. I'm sure you;ll have a great time - remember to push yourself, get a private lesson booked for day 2 and tell him you want to try skiing the gladed runs or something like knot chutes. If you have plenty of cash, get yourself on the wait list for a singe day with the cat-skiing guys too. and remember to write up a trip report Smile

You've suggested 3 Double Black Diamond Gulleys to a Middle Aged Intermediate, as a starting point. Shocked
With advice like that you'll kill somebody.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Spyderman, never fear - that's not something I intend to tackle any time soon (thanks for pointing out the danger!).

I skied powder at Tignes on the boot camp - 1st time. lots of falling over, but laughing a lot as well! I think it's something I need to add to my repetoire (having tackled ice at the PSB)

I went to Fernie as a middle aged intermediate. If you don;t try stuff you;ll never improve. I didn't think Knot chutes were *that* hard?

They're steep, tight, the snow conditions vary day to day, they're avvy prone, and under a chairlift.

I actually can't think of a worse marked run in resort to recommend.

nbt, just trying pow on un-groomed trails is a challenge right now. If I manage that then I will definitely be able to say that I have improved.

I found the trail map on far.redtree.com very interesting and I hope will be useful, the way he describes the various runs with pictures (last season).

DaveC, any recommndations welcome Very Happy

hhmm so you want something a bit challenging with some powder and the chance of trees but nothing too extreme right? The steep blues here are like euro reds but there are a few you can do that will let you to duck off the side into a lightly gladed area. Milky way, Heartland, Down Right, Currie Powder to name but a few. The top section of Falling Star is fun but it involves a long cruise on a cat track to get out.

There are plently of green runs too which will be groomed with powder on top if its dumped (my brother informs me this is called "hero snow") so good for practice. I tend to just throw myself down stuff without knowing what it is, makes me learn quick Very Happy

Best advice I can give for Fernie is not to think of it like Europe - you can pretty much ski everywhere, it's all inbounds and avvy controlled, so go exploring a bit Smile

Oh, don't worry about the run colours, just ski it Smile
