Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski boots How tight?

How tight to you do up your boots and what order do you do up the clips Puzzled
I tend to have the top two clips as tight as I can with a bit of give on the two lower ones

Almost until my feet hurt. Generally as tight as possible, but a bit looser for the first run of the day.

I know I remember being told that there's a 'recommended' order of doing up the clips, but: I do up the strap first, then the top of the two horizontal buckles, then the two vertical ones, then the lower-most buckle, then tighten up the buckles working my way up, finall tightening up the strap. Well, something like that, I just sort of, do it really...

Buckle around the ankle, closes the boot and pulls the heel back.
Buckle around shin, highest buckle, tight for the piste and hardpack as it directs energy to the ski tip for more pressure.
Buckle over the instep, should close on it's own after a couple of good hard flexes.
Buckle over the toe box, keeps the water out by applying pressure across the 'Dam'.

If boots fit properly do they really need to be tight ? I don't really cramk mine up too much. Too tight can lead to cramps, blood supply issues, cold feet etc etc.

I particularly find that tightening them up too much early in the day tends to be a bad idea - my feet tend to need a bit of time to find their natural volume for the day and give me problems all day if I cramp them up early on.

I just crank mine up when I'm racing - otherwise they are comfortable.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, I was told that order by a bootkeeper ages ago, and it's now a habit. He also advised that at the beginning, before the clip across the ankle, it was a good idea to bend your knee forward to get the heel back as far as possible, then the clip made sure it stayed there. Clunk click, clunk clip - can't wait! My boots now live in France. In the old days I'd have been clomping round the house in them by now - pretending it was necessary "to make sure they still fitted" snowHead

My foot is a snug as it can be in the boots, so I can't do the buckles up much more anyway. Maybe the liner will pack down a little more as I wear them but the only room I have in them is a bit of toe wiggle.
Sounds pretty snug/tight to me...!!!
