Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val D'Isere or similar in February

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Have got some holiday booked in February and want to go to a well known, decent resort with lots of skiing on offer (thinking of Val D'Isere as never done before but open to suggestions !)

Anyway, the holiday dates are a little strange, probably from Tuesday 19th Feb until Sunday 24th February. As a result at the moment I am not finding many hotels that want to take this kind of booking (through online checks). Anyone got any ideas ? Anyone know some good hotels that might be open to that sort of booking ?

Its for 4 adults and we are all good skiiers.

Thanks

rooney,
I think you will struggle to find accommodation in the middle of popular resorts particularly in high season in French resorts if you are not going weekend to weekend. My best guess would be to be prepared to take something outwith the centre of a resort. You could try somewhere like Le Chable for Verbier or Tasch for Zermatt Pettneu for St Anton etc. If you contact the tourist offices they will put the request out to the hotels and see what comes up.

rooney, You could try some uk chalet specialists. Many do Sunday-Sunday, but you will certainly have to pay for 7 days in that peak period

The snow and skiing in Val D'Isere is absolutley fantastic. You're only problem would be that as it's Feb, it would be busy and you might struggle to find somewhere to stay like said above, but if you can get there, you will have a fab time.

rooney, It will be difficult that time of the year in a "good" resort you will have to pay for the week, sorry! Could you go at other times?

The chalets at either side of the vanoise express (arcs/plagne) might be open to a bit of negotiation right now? Alternatively go somewhere a lot smaller and less high profile in France, or somewhere big in austria, where the b&b's are more flexible.

www.schladming-rohrmoos.at is good for schladming (ski amade) accomodation - will give you a good idea of what you might find in general in austria at that time.

from my knowledge of small and less high profile French places you won't get anywhere for less than a week there, either. They'll be full of less high profile French skiers. They're pretty inflexible even outside peak times, I've found. I think Austria would be a far better bet at that time of year; apart from the accommodation problems, the resorts will be very busy though the lifts in the Espace Killy are so good that there shouldn't be too many long waits once up the mountain.

Chamonix is your solution. Loads of places that will do that duration and not break the bank. OR book whole week and just turn up on the Tuesday.

If you go to tignes.co.uk , there is a catered chalet which will do any day start. OK it is not as swanky as what you will find in Val, but Tignes is the place to go if your going for skiing and if you want to do some posing ski over to Val. The natural halfpipe (which is classed as a blue!!!) which you have to ski to get there is superb.

I did tignes / Val last Feb 5th for one week (stayed in Val Claret), this is just befor the french half term (i think) and it was not too busy at all. It was awsome skiing. Take the Killy pass and the area is vast. I would go back again without hesitation.

The glacier at Tignes is a must visit. The view from there is fantastic if you get a clear day.

True Roy Hockley, Kel, that blue was more ticky the the Face.
