Poster: A snowHead

Season's greetings from the weatherHead who's hoping that Santa brings you everthing that you're wishing for at Christmas, especially if that includes a few feet of fresh in the coming week... As we enter one of the busiest weeks in the season, conditions in the Alps remain good for the time of year, however some extra snow to freshen up conditions would not go amiss, whilst North America is in the midst of a massive snowstorm leading to epic conditions in the resorts that have managed to stay open. Unfortunately Scotland looks as if it is due a mild spell, which, although it may be more comfortable for those snowHeads fond of wearing a kilt, is not such good news for Scottish skiing.
This week snow reports from Switzerland have been a little thin on the ground, and distinctly lacking in the lovely pictures that we've been getting in previous weeks. Perhaps this is due to Swiss snowHeads taking umbrage at the weatherHead annexing Engelberg to Austria last week, for which mistake I can only apologise. In Laax conditions are starting to get hard packed on the piste, with the off piste being pretty much chopped up by now. This would seem to accurately reflect the conditions across the rest of Switzerland. Rumours that Zermatt is running short of beer and Jaegermeister this week may well have some foundation in truth, but we have it on good authority that there is no need to panic.
Fortunately our French contingent continues to do us proud with some amazing pictures of the conditions on and off piste around Chamonix, and in what we think is a first for a UK skiing website, a real time minute by minute trip report from Val Thorens. Conditions in France remain broadly the same as the rest of Europe with some patches of hardpack on piste, and the off piste being mostly skied out, which is confirmed in our regular round ups from many French resorts including Val d'Isere, La Plagne, the Three Valleys, Tignes, Les Deux Alpes, Les Arcs, and Serre Chevalier.
In Austria conditions are very similar, with reports of good snow for the time of year, but a top up needed for perfect conditions. Good reports continue to come out of The Arlberg, one of the weatherHeads favourite areas.
Elsewhere in Europe, we also have some nice pictures of the good conditions in the Pyrenees
In North America we're getting reports of a White Christmas and powder days in Whistler, Sunshine, and Fernie. Elsewhere in North America, despite (or perhaps because of) the reported monster snowstorm, the only report we have is of deep powder in Tahoe. The weatherHead would be grateful of an update from any snowHeads visiting any other resorts in the USA.
And finally, the weatherHead always knew that Scottish skiers were a breed apart, but this picture seems to prove the point. Thanks to all those who've contributed pictures and snow reports, we couldn't do it without you. Any queries or corrections please feel free to start a thread in Snow Reports or PM the weatherHead. Joyeux Noel and Bon Ski.

Thanks for the updates, Mr weatherHead, and a Happy Skiing Christmas to one and all. There is still some great off piste snow in Tignes and Val d'Isere, but you have to do a bit of walking to access it.
