Poster: A snowHead

After just coming back from levi ski resort in finland for the 3rd time on the bounce we are thinking of our next ski trip . We want a change in resort as much as we love levi its getting a bit boring now since weve covered alll the runs and its get pretty expensive so i have chosen austria because i have heard good things about the country for begineers but the question is which resort . Theres 2 intermediates and one begineer , we would like a few red runs but also some cruisy blue runs through the trees. We are on a budget of about £2300-£2400 thats including hotel flights lift passes and ski rental and ideally we would like half board . Iv seen a couple of resorts like niederau which are cheap but they are very small and we would get bored easy . Saalbach looks the perfect place but its expensive but i might catch a deal
Any help is appriecated

Niederau is now linked to a few other resorts. Ski area's not that small but a bit spread out.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Ohh but you have to take a bus round and that becomes a pain lugging skis on and of with ski boots on . I prefer a resort to be compacted with most thing on the door step

Benefc123, consider Seefeld. Billed as being the beginner's resort, and is a really nice place.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Niederau is ok for 1st weekers but if you're a mixed ability group it could be a pain meeting up etc as the intermediates will ski out Niederau in a day. Plenty of cheap last minute deals to be had though to Niederau. We really liked the skiing up the road in Auffach and itis now linked to Alpbach.
We've taken the family to Kappl a couple of times and was really impressed. All the runs tend to meet up with each other so different ability skiers can take a black red or blue option down and meet at the mid station. Some great skiing and apres to be had up the road in Ischgl too. Stayed at the Alpenfrieden last time which was excellent. Right on the piste, great food and all for €50 pppn db&b. Will need to go independent. Only an hour from Innsbruck. http://www.kappl.com/en
Serfaus/Fiss/Ladis is supposed to be excellent too but can be quite expensive.

Id din't particularly like Seefeld, I found the skiing a bit bland. it does sound like you're describing Saalbach though, warm up on Kohlmais for the first day or two, then lots of progression for the rest of the week. I've no idea of the cost of accommodation there, but food and drink is on the cheaper side, especially for big resorts.

Benefc123, St. Johann im Pongau or St. Johann i. Tirol?
clarky999, well the OP is asking for beginners resorts! Having said that theres a nice little run under the panorama gondola that connects the two halves of the Rosskopf. Very nice. But I guess every resort has it's little specials...

St. Johann in Tirol is a moderately sized area with some fine skiing. It also seems to be popular with beginners. If you wanted even more variety, the Schneewinkel ski pass would open up several other resorts only a bus ride away.
If you use the ForumSearch function you should be able to find a number of threads with photos (or look directly in my albums in the snowBase/snowMedia zone).

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Benefc123, Let me know if I can be of any help (we still have some availability). It needn't be expensive at all here.
