Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tignes cablecar evacuated

Hi PG,

finally we went and it was a success! Not that much snow, but apart from that we could ski enough for season start and had our problems anyway with the altitude...

On Saturday we saw a test run of the telepherique (sp?) at snail speed. Sunday morning we saw a piste truck going to the valley with a wheel set of a gondola. I assume the outage will be longer Sad

Holger Issle, glad you had a good time. Thanks for reminding me, I'll contact them tomorrow for the latest news. They were testing the cable cars on Sunday as well. At least you could ski back down to the resort, Val Claret.

Good news! The Grande Motte cablecar reopened today, following repairs and tests (news from Tignes.net site)

Does anyone know how people would have been rescued if this accident had happened at one of the points where the car runs highest above the ground?

Same way, moving down a cable to a lift is no big deal. Any aerial work is easy when you've got those huge anchors Very Happy They'll have some pulleys the right size available, just a case of hooking over the cable and applying some arrest mechanism, a line back to a guy with a brake on the pylon is simplest. No problem, all you need a long rope.

What's worse is not the distance from the floor but what's underneath, they'll be some areas I'd not want to lower people into. In which case I'd bring them down or up the cable again, for upwards I'd use a 3-to-1 advantage pulley setup if I had to do it with the contents of my rucksack or send them down. If I had a powered winch I'd just take them to nearest safe pylon.
