Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

IS it worthwhile upgrading boots?

I have some 3 yrs old (10 ski weeks) Saloman Performa (£200) green things that are stinking.

I really enjoy my skiing and have now reached the dizzy heights of Advanced Intermediate (according to Easiski).

I enjoy piste skiing and want to get better at moguls, off piste and messing about.

My current boots are a bit loose now I think. Would I see any benefit from more modern boots that are designed for my improved level of skiing? Cost is not a problem, just want to enjoy myself and improve as much as possible and if the newer kit helps, then great.

Thanks in anticipation.

Blindside, Boots should last 20 weeks, but if they feel loose, they won't be doing you any favours with regard to improving. Take yourself along to one of the Bootfitters and get an expert opinion.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you can afford it, buy a new pair.

Go to a high-quality store.

Get some custom-molds fitted.

Better kit leads to better skiing.

I had used my first boots for 5 weeks on snow, and lots of sessions down the dry slope, and they were feeling very loose (probably too big to start with!) so I made a trip to Lockwoods where they fitted me up with a pair of Lange Freerides, and superfeet footbeds, probably a higher performance boot than I need, but as I have very thin feet a race mould shell was needed, and as soon as I tried then my skiing was improved - so much more feel, and my skis went where I pointed them striaght away! They cost a few bob, but well worth it - what I was trying to do at the slope suddenly started happening.

admin, please can we make this thread a sticky in view of Whitegold's above comment? And frame it? Laughing

cheers for the responses.

Are there any particular boots I should be initially looking at or choosing a bootfitter by? ie what boots should they be stocking or recommending based on my current standard/aspirations? I am a size 11.5- 12 UK which could limit availability.

Mine have probably done 40+ weeks, they smell, maybe time for a new pair.
