Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Getting new skis prepped

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Some advice please. I need to get bindings attached and skis prepped for their first outing (at least I think they need prepping, don't they?).

Can anyone recommend a ski tech within reach of E14, London (>50m)?
Do you have any idea what is a reasonable amount to pay for this work?

Alternatively, I'm wondering if I shouldn't just get them done at the resort when I arrive on Sat morning? Maybe it'd be cheaper and less hastle than trolling around the country for a day this weekend?

Cheers

flowa, Ellis Brigham in Covent Garden might be the closest. You should expect to pay about £25-30 for it - don't forget to take a boot with you, and it's best to phone them before hand to make sure they can do it while you wait.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

flowa, It'll be cheaper in resort. You may have to wander around to find a shop with a jig that matches your bindings....having said that I had some touring bindings mounted for Mrs Ski at E-B Covent Garden... they were able to do it whilst we waited. The cloakroom attendent at the Colesium was a bit suprised, apparently not many people take K2s to the opera Laughing

See, I'm tempted to get them done here now just to cause the same affect. wink Am off to a swanky do tomorrow night where I could pull that stunt. Madeye-Smiley

The bindings are Look Nova Exclusives - nothing fancy, I think. Good tip on the jig, I hadn't considered that.

hmmmm, decisions, decisions.....?

flowa, If you want to come outside London or happen to be in this direction then Skee-Tex at Battlesbridge in Essex are an old established family firm www.skee-tex.co.uk/ with quite a good workshop facility - I haven't needed skis serviced by them yet myself yet, but will take mine within the next few weeks for a wax, but everyone I've spoken to that knows them has said they are good firm.

Sorry to pass up the chance of some personal instruction in the way of the T-Bar (I do hope you're leaning on the edge of a desk at least once a day wink ) but thanks to WTFH's suggestion I've now had an excellent chat with EB Covent Gdn and am going to visit them this weekend - also they've got the ski-bag I want in stock and a good range of poles, so it's a one-stop-shop opportunity for my last bits and bobs.
Oh and the cost is very good. £20. Can't argue with that. Cool
