Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

You Raang?, I've heard of people talking about this, but didn't know how it was done - that looks quite a useful article - I'm going to try it the next time I put my gear on. Thanks for asking about it jtobin03,

You will need your quads in good shape and go carefully to do the toe piece.

Don't go anywhere near DIN 8 ( this is really tough and you can do damage twisting at this level ) and DIN 5 will be about avaerage so if you can't do this, your quads aren't good enough...IMV

FWIW, I'd say, quads and hamstrings are almost always underprepared.

JT, Skee-Tex decided to back my bindings off to a setting of 5 (from a previous 6) so they're not quite a tight as I reported previously. However, I take your point that the muscles may not be up to the job - I guess the forces that could be applied whilst skiing can easily outdo anything your own muscles could apply. If this is the case is it worth doing a release test like this when the results are directly down to forces that it is down to your body only to apply.

I only do it to see that the bindings work that way..ie, they allow the toe to twist out...and as it happens, I tend to do it at the start of the 1st run so it is the DIN that I am going to ski at.
You could do it at a lower DIN and then tighten them up but this is all time consuming when all you want to do is ski. a fall will likely generate much more force but this isn't why I do it..I just want to test the mechanism on what might be newly set-up - to me - bindings.
I'll do it with all new set-ups if I change my skis around as I want to find out or be sure the bindings work as they should and not be surprised ..or hurt...on my first fall.

My point about muscles being upto the job isn't about being upto twisting this test, but upto skiing itself.

JT, Ah....got the point about the quads and hamstrings - hopefully my gym machine is helping with that.
