Beverley, La Daille is very handily placed in the Espace Killy. Any of the lifts from the base and then the Tommeuses chair will get you to the ridge above Tignes. Coming back is just one lift out of either Le Lac or Val Claret. Any reasonable intermediate should be able to comfortably start from La Daille and take a trip up the Grande Motte or down to Les Brevieres (nice lunch spot in the trees) and get back without panic.
Runs to avoid for cautious intermediates: principally the 2 blacks down to the main village from Bellevarde, La Face and L'Epaule. Both grow big bumps and are frequently strewn with the bodies of not-cautious-enough intermediates.

Also, there are reds and reds, blacks and blacks. Are there any in Val that are a no-no for cautious intermediates ? |
In Val d'isere some of the green runs should be red - not good for near beginners If you're an 'intermediate' then you sholudn't have any bother with any of the runs with possible exception of the two blacks off Belevarde mentioned above.

Beverley,
There have been a few extra blacks added on the Tignes side that are relatively gentle . Myown impression of the blacks in the area though are that none are really undergraded, but none are really difficult as far as black runs go in normal conditions. In difficult conditions though most steeper runs can be unpleasant at best and frightening at worst. If there has been no recent snow when you go I would exercise caution and maybe scout them from the lifts before attempting.
And as posted above links between the two are very good, much easier than the 3V, no need to worry about getting stuck unlessyou choose to spend the whole afternoon down at les Brevieres

I can't remember times to get back but getting around from tignes to val d'sere is relatively easy. The runs down to la daille can resemble bomb alley in the afternoons. However if you are a reasonable intermediate you should find it easier to cope. the red run down is often the easier due to less bodies than on the notional green run

Hhmm. I had heard that their gradings are a bit blurred in the colours. I will tackle pretty much anything, the steeper it is the slower I go, but ice and crowds don't sound my kind of mix!

My this forum is witty this morning.
I've been looking at the webcam and visualising myself stylishly skiing up to La Folie Douce for a hot chocolate laced with rum.

Talking of Leisse, the only time I did it, it was fine. Pretty moderate black, I thought - and I'm no black run hero. However my son, who is an extremely good skier, did warn me at the top that it was "not an easy black". When we got to the bottom he said, rather disappointed "They've pisted it, damn.". He takes me down all sorts of things unsuitable for an old lady, but he did strongly advise me to avoid La Face at the end of the day, so I did. But that "green" down to La Daille should be no problem for any intermediate skier.

Anyone know if the Val-Tignes link is open yet? We're going to Tignes on 16th, and have a couple of private lessons booked with an instructor we know, but he's in Val d'Isere. Would be nice to ski there, rather than take a bus/taxi.

docsquid, I saw on the val website that yes it is open now. Not knowing it, I don't know if its the sort of link that shuts in bad weather?

Beverley, . You can always ride back down to La daille after a days skiing. The funicular from la Daille can be used to get back down. I can't remember if the small gondola that terminates behind the Folie duece can also be ridden back down to La Daille. Pretty much the same for much of thr Espace Killy that you can ride down as well as up the major lifts.

george owen, Ah, useful information thank you. This may save one of those piste bashing with the poles over-tired tantrums at the end of the day. Not that I would do such a thing of course

The link has been open since last saturday.
The Aeroski link sometimes closes due to high winds but alternatives are normally available via Col de Fresse or Paquis chairlift. If high winds are expected the links do not open so you should not get trapped in the wrong valley.

You know it makes sense.

Not the end of the world if you do get stuck, bus/taxi relatively quick and cheap ( not gazillion Euros like 3V). Peak season I think last link closes 16.30

Beverley, the link la Daille to Tignes - easy as described above - two lifts (the second being Tommeuses) up to Toviere then chose where you want to go.
Tignes to la Daille - not always easy because the bottom part of the green (helpfully called Verte) is not particularly green and the reds are quite possibly easier IMHO.
The skiing link from la Daille to Val is in some ways (again IMHO) possibly a bit more frought unless you are prepared to take the cable car down as you are obliged to use one of Epaule du Charvet, la Face (both blacks) or Santons (a blue). Santons has a bit of a split personality with the top bit being in a narrowing couloir (still fairly wide but always very busy when I've been there and full of "less-good" skiers hesitating or eejits trying to bomb past them). It then widens to a long schuss followed by a long flat track before ending up in the village. Just at the end of the long schuss (when you are at maximum speed) is a great sunbathing restaurant - but you don't want to stop there unless you like poling

If the crowds coming to La Daille at the end of the day are a problem for you it's always nice to stop in the Triffolet for an apres ski drink and a pastry, then a quick blast down on quiet pistes.

Surely one of the nicest feelings in skiing is to decant into a mountain eating hole, have a cake and/or a beer/drink and then serene glide down with the piste to yourself. I am glad most folks decline to do this.
