Poster: A snowHead

Hi all
Got four full days booked off end of Jan and flying into GVA, just wondering which resort ticks the following boxes ?
- 2 1/2 hrs drive from GVA
- reliable snow
- some nightlife
- not much driving to be done once in resort
Was thinking maybe Val D'Isere or Les Arcs but have never skied in Swaziland so would be interested to hear of any decent resorts there.
cheers for your replies

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Verbier, great skiing and nightlife, long weekend accommodation might be a problem, try Interhome.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

j2ski will give you a list of resorts.
Vd'I and Les Arcs are pushing it in the time frame you aree looking at.
Verbier is an obvious answer. Chamonix except for the driving. Morzine is another.
PS didn't mean jbobs answer was obvious I din't see it when I read the post.

How expensive is Verbier compared to somewhere like Tignes ? I thought Morzine was not that reliable for snow.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

takoon, The general opinion on 's from Morzine regulars seems to be that it's pretty good for snow reliability. I haven't been often enough to know.
Verbier is probably fairly similar price wise to Tignes, last went to Verbier a couple of years ago Tignes quite a bit before that so not up to date.

Verbier is not cheap accomodation was but the beer is a lot cheaper than in most French resorts ... depends where your priorities lie !!!
If you want cheap accomodation stay in Le Chable .. below Verbier but is on the gondola ... not much atmosphere tho'.
Morzine is nice for a French resort tho' and the beer seems to be a more reasonable price than most as far as I remember.
There are also shed load of smaller resorts between Verbier and GVA that are all great when the snow's good .. Villars, Champery etc ... unless you're mad for those high altitude windswept places like Tignes I wouldn't bother heading all the way down to the resorts close to Moutiers when there are dozens of nearer ones.

Much the same as above.
Verbier is great and can get the train in departures @ GVA depending on flight times, 1 change goes along shoreline of Lake Geneva. When we drove I think it was about 2 hrs.
Been to Morzine several times, about 1hr drive from GVA and usually loads accom incl transfers on Chaltes direct, skiing great in avoriaz and whole area easily reached from Morzine- apres not bad but not as good as verbier.
Vd'I and trois vallees were about 3 hours drive, better to fly to Grenoble for them and LDA, Alp D'huez
There is a whole host of resort within 2 hours of GVA , these are just the ones I have been to.
Where is snow sure - hopefully everywhere !

I've heard there are some nice little places near Mbabane. There was no snow there last time I was in Swaziland, but you never know. Some great nightlife if you like a knees up in a shebeen.
