Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resort suggestions

Looking for a long weekend early Jan. 4th to the 8th.

Will be flying Birmingham to 'Geneva' and want to drive no more than 2hrs.

Which resorts should have snow, suit two good intermediate skiers and have reasonably priced accommodation available.

Thanks

TP

From Birmingham you can fly direct to Friedrichshafen from there with a hire car you can drive to the Monafon (60 miles) in Austria which has very cheap B+B, however the weekend you have picked is the end of New Year and you should book in advance through the tourist office.

tp023, The difficulty may be with accommodation, as the Friday night is the last of the peak New Year week - when bed occupancy will probably be the highest of the year. You will find it difficult to get anywhere in a resort for a few days including that night. The traffic OUT of resorts on Saturday morning is going to be horrendous, but if you are going against the flow it should be OK. To answer your initial question, one easily reached resort with plenty of skiing is Flaine.

I would also suggest Flaine (and Les Carroz) or Chamonix. Both are within 1.5 hours of Geneva and easy to get to.

Chamonix is brilliant and you can stay in various villages down the valley. I know a company called 'Ski Weekend' specialise in this sort of holiday http://www.skiweekend.com/

GVA - Les Carroz is very quick, motorwayalmost all the way IIRC, and the skiing should suit you fine.

Les Carroz is a bit further from the action - if you drive on a bit up to Flaine everything is more quickly accessible, and the snow is likely to be better. However, I still think that Friday night is going to be difficult for accommodation up in a resort. Maybe stay down in Cluses?
