I bought boots off the interweb (bargainboards.co.uk) and got lucky in that the first pair I got seem to be almost perfect for me... your mileage may vary though. You can probably save money getting your boots beforehand (unless you're going to Canada) but you will probably save time getting them fitted in person. I'd make your decision based on which is more important to you and how long before your first trip to the snow this season (not that far away from the sounds of it?)
Normally I'd recommend splitting the difference and making the time to go to a shop in person before your hols, but if you're in the Wick at the top of Scotland then I'm guessing your nearest shop is Boarderline and yeah, that's a serious trip as you indicate.
On balance it does seem like buying on-piste is probably your best bet as I doubt you'd have time to return boots and get a second set delivered. Good luck!

dave_wick, atleast you have them 'heat fitted' moulded to your feet which will save you a few days of having to break them in

i've a pair of those and they're super comfy, i'm really happy with mine.
the consensus seems to be that they fit people with a narrower heel/ankle area, but seem quite roomy around the toes.

dave_wick, sounds like a good plan - i think the f22s are generally a tad smaller than the label says - when i got mine the fitter said start a half size bigger than you think.

sounds like you are.
wear your boarding socks (*thinish ones).
when you stand up dead straight your toes should just touch the front of the boot (only lightly), drop into 'riding stance' - your toes should now not be touching. (if they are you might want to go up half a size?)
since heel/ankle fit seems ok, generally sound about right. wear them round the house (preferably standing) for a couple of hours. if they're pain free you're onto a winner.
