ok so scoping out resorts options in the USA..
Want: Decent Snow, Lots of Runs, Nice Place - pretty/scenic town rather than 'condo land' is important. Lots for non-skiers (Gran/Sis possibly) to do. Pref not stupidly long transfers..
Background: Me - boarder happy on most things, lover powder, brother in law - good skier, and 2 nieces - intermediates but happy bombing down reds etc.. Non sking gran who found at 69 it was a bit much last time..but might have a go if gentle/wide nrusery slopes. Sister likes easy greens/shopping.
Did courcheval 1650 as a group a couple of years ago which was good. Now looking for someting different.. poss self/catering accomodation ski/ski out (if possible). I've also done avoriaz, alpe d'huez, les menuires, les arcs, la plagnge, stanton/lech/zurs..

Looking at that list I can see why you're ready for a "pretty/scenic town"!
Aspen or Park City would be pretty and traditional, but big enough to be sufficiently entertaining for non-skiers.
Being based in Salt Lake City itself would not be "pretty" but there would be lots of shopping and other activities.

ditto - or for an extra flight you could do Steamboat, Whitefish Mountain Resort in Montana or Sun Valley (Ketchum), Idaho. 3 of the best ski towns in the west.

How about Jackson Hole, if Gran would be up for dog sled rides, trips into Yellowstone etc??

Would Gran be up for a guided Snowmobile trip into Yellowstone (or riding pillion if someone else drove)? 
Alternatively you might care to go to Lake Tahoe region eg staying at Heavenly. Easy to get to (direct flights into San Francisco, which is always worth a day's sightseeing at the beginning or preferably end of your trip), then about a 3 hour transfer to Lake Tahoe. There is a paddle steamer excursion on the lake (which runs even in Winter). If Gran's a gambler there are the Casinos on the Nevada side of town, and (if transport can be arranged) nearby places to visit are the old silver mining town of Virginia City, the Nevada state capital Carson City (where John Wayne's last film the Shootist was filmed) and Reno (a mini Las Vegas!). The lake itself is outstandingly scenic IMO, and there are many ski resorts in the region eg Squaw Valley, Northstar etc you can visit on different days. One nearby resort not may people know of, and is certainly worth a visit is Mount Rose on the North- Eastern (Nevada) side of the lake.

Sorry, piling on late here.
I agree with much of what has already been stated. My suggestions would be:
1) Aspen/Snowmass, perhaps not the easiest transfer for you, but worth it for the most interesting ski town in USA and a cluster of very good ski areas within about 15kms of each other. I think staying at Snowmass and free bussing to attractions in Aspen would be good for your group.
2) Vail/Beaver Creek, not quite as scenic and diverse as Aspen, but also a very entertaining place for nonskiers and fine, varied terrain for those who do.
3) Park City, Utah, good town, good ski areas, accommodations possibly not as expensive as the first two.
4) Heavenly/Tahoe area, concur with the idea of a tourist sidetrip to visit San Francisco. I prefer the dryer snow of UT and CO and I'm not a gambler.
5) Whistler-Blackcomb, this may belong higher on the list except you said USA, and unlike the others I've personally not been there yet.
