Poster: A snowHead

Look like we are gonna go to st anton in March. I've been on a decent website looking for a place to stay. It's difficult to suss out the location of some of the places (we don't want to end up miles away from the resort) I'm told to get somewhere not to far from the Krazy Kanguruh bar coz most of the best places are round that area...whatever. The places I've come across are:
Sonnenwiese
st jakob
Nasserein
Bach
Dorf
Gsor
Gand
?????? are these places in St Anton or what?????

The tourist board are very helpful and speak good Englsih. http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/ If you want to be near the Krazy Kangaroo and Mooserwirt then stay in the town centre where you are also near all the apres ski, discos etc. But if you value your sleep don't have a room overlooking the high street - the double glazing makes no difference! Mark Warner are worth a try.

The website http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/ which JT took the map from has lists of hotels (see "rooms") and when you click on a hotel it will have "location" as one of the bits of information: this will show you where it is on the map. St Jakob is further down the valley with a shuttle bus. Some of the others were probably once different hamlets but now all strung together.
There is lots on "Forum Search" at top of the page since many people in the past have asked similar questions. But no doubt if you wait, the helpful people on this website will be along with more info.

HI,
We stayed at Amalien Haus with flexi ski, which is on dorfstrasse in St. Anton. Its a good central loaction on the main pedestrianised road. Would reccomend it. Although not if you are in bed before2am as the music is quite loud!
Have a great time on and off skis,
Denise

Check the map that JT posted. The centre of town could be though of as being in verticals D & E.
Nasserein is basically to the right of F - about a 10 minute walk to the centre of town. There is a ski bus from West Terminal to Nasserein - Linie 4. Timetables on the net, but the buses run about twice an hour. A quiet part of town and well-serviced by the Nassereinbahn. If however you want to hang out at KK, then probably not the right end of town.
If you go into vertical C, and left beyond that to B & A, then getting into town can be a chore. The roads are steep in place and tend to be icey. For these reasons, be careful of Moos - it can be tempting, since it is close to KK and Mooserwirt, but the walk into town is a real pain. Once you get to A & B (eg Stadle, Gastig, and Dengert), you are almost the boonies when it comes to access to town and direct access to the lifts.
St Jakob is one of many villlages down the valley towards Innsbruck. Accomm tends to be much cheaper out there, but you will pay in convenience. Check the bus timetables.

It is possible to get to Nasserein on skis from KK after the lifts are shut, provided there is enough snow. It involves a bit of skating down to the World Championship stadium then down the path created by the old railway line.
Not strictly legal, but under the cover of darkness...., should bring you out right by the Nassereinbahn. A bit of effort required but better than walking.

You are right Arlberg, it can be done on reasonable snow, and with some reasonable traversing / skating skills. Do however keep an eye for the Kassies - you would not be much more than a small mogul to one of those machines.

In my experience and probably yours also, its not the Kassies that you have to watch out for on the run down into the village.
