Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Due to open on the 16th November.

The IceField Parkway (the main road from Calgary to Jasper) has already posted 'poor' driving conditions several times this year. It always ends up closed for us whilst we're there in January for either the inbound or return trip. Meaning long (but worth it) trek via Edmonton

It looks as though it's going to be a good year.

Only ten more weeks for me!

how long is the detour via edmonton

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The journey from Calgary to Jasper is a little over 5 hrs.

Via Edmonton it can be anything from 7 to 9 hours (in our experience so far), but worse when the coach breaks down (happened twice!) and even worse if the plane's diverted to Edmonton too (happened once) you'd think it'd be quicker but it's slower!.
You have to remember if the weather is bad enough to shut the icefield parkway then the road via Edmonton will also be a little iffy.

Is this your first time to Jasper - what date and where are you staying?

It's always got powder.
It's in the middle of nowhere so it's reasonably quiet. Every year I can be on the main run down and there will be no one else around!
No lift queues
The brits (or europeans) aren't the majority on the slopes.
All runs lead back to the same place (great when there's a group of you)
Tuition (if you need it) is excellent.
The town is pleased for your business. (The winter ski season is an extra for them, the summer is their main money maker)
The views from both the ski hill and the town are amazing.
The canadians want to talk about you (unlike most americans who want to talk about them!)

You can walk on frozen rivers, see the most amazing frozen waterfalls, skate on frozen lakes.

Jasper a national park so there is very very little development allowed. You can walk from one end of the town to the other in fifteenn minutes. There's less than 4500 permanent residents.

I don't doubt there are other places out there that have all the above. But I like having all the above in one place

I could go on

powhound, SnowboardVicky,

I have been to Lake Louse and Sunshine. Does it differ much from them? Both SS & LL had no ques, empty slopes and guaranteed snow.

Sorry Johnboy, I've never been to either SS or LL.

My understanding is that apres ski is a lot more low key that Jasper.

I'm sure someone on here has been to all three and can give us an opinion.

Main road up to Jasper (From Calgary), The Icefield Parkway, has shut due to weather for the first time this season.

18cm of snow in the last 24 hours up at the slopes mid station and still snowing

Looks like a good base of snow is being put down for all us that are heading out there!
