Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Weekend in Hintertux

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Got Back Sunday from a couple of days in Hintertux.

Arrived Thursday afternoon to snow and chilly temps to the village.
We were surprised exactly how much snow was about on the drive up, and above about 1500m there they looked to have had some serious falls.

Skiied Friday, blowing an absolute gale, and poor visibility made the first day of the year a tricky one, made some of the steep T bars on the extreme far side of the glacier interesting.
The one serving the Blue (Kaserer 1??) was on and off all day with people being blown over.
As a result they shut the area about 3/3.3, but was okay as it allowed an early retreat to the umbrella bar by the middle station.
The low temps hadn't been mirrored down in the village though, and most of the snow had gone.

Saturday was loads better, and the queues by the Gondala at 8 were a one off, and it wasnt too busy once you got away from the racing teams.
mainly blue skies, and good snow, especially over on the far drags, both chairs were running, which meant the red to the Tuxer Ferner House was more attractive.

All in all a really good couple of days, good food and friendly staff at the Bad Hotel Kirchler.

Snow was much better than expected, and apart from scary patches of seriously hard grey ice down to the Tuxer Ferner House at the end of the day, good fun.

Heading back to Salzburg on Sunday, all of the valley level snow was gone, but was holding up above about 1500m, especially the further East, fingers crossed it can hold on.

Roll on December!
