Poster: A snowHead

Hi,
I'm looking at buying a pair of skis this season.
I'm an intermediate (happiest on wide blues or reds) I weight a fair bit (16 stone) and I'm 6ft.
What skis would you recommend? I've been looking at some K2 Omni Sport skis...

These are crackin' ladies skis at the right price. No problem with your weight on piste at all however at high end speeds they might be a tad short. If you plan on getting off-piste in the near future then go for something wider underfoot.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks for the link. I think I need a 170 though, so they are a bit short.

benzanna3, I'd certainly recommend considering the Burnin' Luv's though as they're at the stiffer end of the flex range which is what you'll want. I think the longest length is 167cm.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

benzanna3, Spyderjon is correct in that they are laminate construction so they will hold up (not noodle out) under someone who is heavier or skis aggressively. I am, however, someone who always recommends a longer ski, because I like a longer ski.
Another ski I'd recommend is the Elan Wave Magic. Its a fairly stiff ski and has some great properties that lend to an intermediate.
One more suggestion for your demolist is the Nordica Olympia Conquer.
Of these I'd most highly recommend the Elan. It Rocks!

It's all about length.

benzanna3, I think, Megamum, can help you find a good deal on a nice pair of elans.
There are actually a couple of good elans that would meet the points you're seeking. This is one of the three, the other that I like is the Mag Spice.
My absolute favourite in that line is the Wave spice but the 80mm in the waist requires a bit of aggressive skiing

I'm not as tall or as heavy as you but am more the size of the average man than the average women ( at least short ar*ed british ones ) but some skis I have liked are,
Nordica Eliminators and Dobermann Spitfires
Elan Magfire ( 12 was too stiff for me so maybe 10s)
K2 Recons
Head iXRC 800
I am probably about the same level skier as you and haven't really been that enamoured with the womens skis I've tried. I think they make them softer at a given length than the mens equivalent so to get them stiff enough you would have to ski them quite long which I don't like. For instance I tried the Lotta luvs and the Recons in 167cm and much prefered the Recons, not sure why though.
I am 5ft9 and am quite happy with a 160cm on piste but they would have to be fairly stiff, I borrowed a pair of Fischer RC4 race skis on holiday in a 155cm and really enjoyed them as well. Go to one of the snowdomes and try a few from ellis brigham and I would say don't be scared of skis that are marketed way above your level. My most recent favourite ski was the Dobermanns and they are supposed to be for experts which I am nowhere near!!!!
